Installed it right out of the box. Bike is rich so i took 1/2 counter clockwise turn out of the metering rod. wouldnt idle to run unless i have the choke on. put it back to stock same problem. What did i do wrong? i installeda fresh plug also.

These two things contradict each other. If you have to have the choke on it is lean. You did reindex the rod so the flat side faces the motor right? 99% of the time these run very good right out of the box with a little teaking done to them if needed. PJ should be set to about one turn out. Pretty stock bike or mods?

Don't give up so easily. Its a really simple carb to set up.

I had to turn down the power jet to zero to get mine fine tuned at idle and mid-RPM, then dial up the power jet to run good at full throttle. My power jet is only turned out 1/2 turn or so. I need to cut down the power jet tube, apparently. I think the 36mm carb with the 300 creates a pretty strong effect on the pickup tube for the power jet.
I left my muffler plug in when installing mine and it wouldn't start for hours until I noticed that!

:) I have done this and also left a plastic bag over my air filter after washing the airbox. Started fine but would not rev very well.

Make sure the flat side of the metering rod if facing the reed side, They run with the symtoms you discribe with the rod 180 out.

Yes, read the instructions well and understand the carb. It is simple once understood.
