Curious to see if anybody has any info on after market headlamps. Looking at Baja Designs xl and squadron models. Within each of those models they have a "pro" and a "sport" version with the pro having considerably more lumens. Obviously brighter is better but curious to know if the pro versions are overkill. Any input from first hand experience is much appreciated.

Here's the link to 4 lights I'm looking at if anybody wants to check the spec's.

I have the XL pro, it's a huge step up from stock obviously. The light is well made and Baja Designs stands behind their products. The way the lights are sold there is no "high" or "low" beam, just on and off (off is the factory "low beam position", on is the "high beam".) This is where the overkill may come in. Off-road its extremely effective with the beam pattern and brightness being optimal. On the street at night is where the it may pose a problem. The light is so bright you'll blind oncoming traffic. I've "heard" there is an add-on you can purchase that will dim the light when in the low beam position, but have no first hand experience. The instal is relatively easy, however I had to mod to the supplied plastic brackets in order to aim the light in a more downward position. About a 10 minute process.

BD offers it right on their website here http://www.bajadesigns.com/ProductDetail?ItemNumber=660055

I have a Squadron Pro on my 610 with that dimmer and it works great for high/low beams. I haven't see a sport version in person though to compare.

Might also check out Motominded.com. Some guys in Colorado using 3-d printers to make the mounting brackets for Baja Designs products. True plug and play.

I bought from them a 2 light rig for my KTM 690. Uses a 2 LED unit for the low beam and then a 4-LED Squadron Pro and the 2 LED unit for high beam. This way you can aim the two LED unit so it does not blind people, while having the 4-LED torch to reach out a long way. It is a real improvement over stock and uses a lot less juice so I can run the heated grips, etc.

The guys at Motominded were very helpful - they had a discount for Adventure Rider forum members.

Another option is to replace the bulb with a cyclops LED. Very bright and works, which is what i did, but then I am no professional racer.:)

Thanks for the feedback, I've also heard just replacing the bulb can be a significant improvement. Will probably go that route to begin with to save a few bucks.
