Would you be scared to buy a bike that don't run and what would I.spend to get it running??? Are they problematic with BMW engineering???
I would suggest you do a search on this forum for EWS. Some fixes have been fairly simple, but if the coded key is missing this could be a big issue.
Depending on the issue, you may not get it running ever. Why did the current owner not get it fixed? What price is he asking?
Owner claims he hasn't had time to mess with it.... App 4000 miles on it..I'm thinking 2500$... No dealer i would dream of trusting in Minnesota....I would hall it to halls....I have read as simple as disconnecting the battery or key ring and a few things but in my mind even if the guy don't admit it I bet he has tried a few things...all the simple things...I just don't want to end up spending a fortune and you are buying without hearing run which is scary.. ..
You could get lucky and be an easy fix, on the other hand, it may need a new ecu and good luck getting that programmed for the bike. If you cannot do the work I would advise to walk away. The caveat being if you are willing to part it out if you cannot get it running. Again, you will need to be able to work on the bike to some degree.
Do a search for "ECU Ground". Seems like some bikes can be fixed with the addition of a ground wire from the ECU case to the battery neg terminal. You might be able to do this temporarily with a piece of wire as a test. Matt
