I've got an 09 610 te, and just did the 600 mile service. I was considering plugging the 02 sensor, and Installing the resistor (power-up kit), and keeping the stock exhaust for the time being. What kind of performance increase can I expect, and is their any problem with plugging the O2 sensor, and not changing the exhaust. Thanks for the help.
O2 just leans everything out. By-passing richens the mixture. Exhausts are pretty restrictive and aftermarkets WILL get you more HP. No harm in doing it your way that I know of. I hesitated because I was considering my own situation where I use some leaded race gas in my bike, which would mess with the cat in the pipe. Not a problem when using unleaded.
I did it the "Radio Shack" way with the stock pipe (and a little bypass hole through the cat) and it works fine. Feels like a 10-15% power boost across the board.
10-15% boost for cheap without the need to get the LV can just yet, and no negative effect ?...That sounds interesting
On my new '08 SM610 I had the dealer put a Leo Vince slip-on on it and remap the fuel injection. It ran good, but after break-in I got the Lambda removal kit and it ran great. It's about $400 for the pipe and kit, and is well worth it.
Finally got around to installing the power-up kit, and also decided to replace the stock exhaust with the LV slip-on. It was a quick and easy installation, and it is the best money I've spent on the bike. I went for a 10 mile test ride, and was very pleased with the result. The engine starts easier, feels smoother, and has a noticeable increase in the power. Also, the bike used to backfire constantly on deceleration, and now has almost no backfiring at all. I'm leaving tomorrow with a couple of friends, and we will be riding the TAT from Helena, AR to Salida, CO, and will be enjoying my newly improved bike.
digging up an old thread but i am looking for similar advice. i have a stock 09 610 and would love some more power and through searching have discovered the power up kit. i read somewhere the lambda removal should only be done when changing the pipe as it will run too rich for the stock one. but reading here it sounds like it is ok to do it with the stock pipe? i also have read about removing the cat from the mid pipe? is that recommended? any advice would be appreciated cheers
I have an 06 TE610 (carb version) and I drilled out the cat. It is in the silencer. Didn't notice any power change, but the pipe was much cooler because the cat generates a lot of heat. The bikes run too lean before doing the PU mod (probably to meet emisions req) so after the PU and removing any restriction plates in the air box the bike runs very good. Additional tuning may help too. I'm getting the JD tuner for my new SM630, so we'll see. Runs very good with just the PU.
My 630 was 100% stock except for the PU kit when I installed it. The benefits were wonderful and it remains to be the best "bang for the buck" mod I've done on the bike.
cheers sounds like it will be worth giving a go. it will be easy enough to reverse if it doesnt run well. are there any step by step guides on how to decat the exhaust? the powerup pdf i found on here had the cat in the mid exhaust but that must be a different bike? (i am chasing a LV x3 but being in Australia makes everything more expensive). cheers
It was easier for me to do the Leo Vince pipe, and living in California - home of the smog laws, it made more sense to keep my stock pipe in case they start doing smog checks on motorcycles. Just adding a pipe and doing the Lambda removal kit will make your bike rock.
yeah i am working on sourcing a LV pipe. hard to find someone who will ship to OZ and event then it costs nearly $100! might try to de-cat the pipe in the meantime if i can find DIY guide.
My dealer man said 75.00- 100.00 for the power up kit, looks like I will have to find an importer or do my own! TE630 will have to wait a bit for more power I guess.
just what i was looking for! big thanks! looks to be a bit of work in the pipe but shouldnt be too bad. might have a crack at it this weekend.
+1 for just installing the 2,200 ohm resistor across the two wires where the 02 White wires were originally plugged into. With the standard pipe, my bike went from nearly un-rideable at low revs, to very smooth and much more power all through the rev range. I have since modified my airbox and installed a Barrett Single pipe which has given noticeably more power. It has slight popping on occasion now after the pipe change, but soon Ibeat will sort that. Mine is an Aussie TE630, no restrictor in the airbox as delivered. Power on regardless
well bought the gear i need for my DIY power up, total cost $5.40!! still a little cautious about doing it with the stock pipe. is there any possibilty it could have any issues??
