Six days into our visit to Moab and it's everything any one who rides off road could ask for! Rode the White Rim trail today and that ride alone was worth the trip. Can't say I'm seeking out the hardest single track trails - just enjoying riding and taking in the spectacular views. While I still have a couple of days left, and not wanting to jinx myself, the TE610 has been flawless. It's taken a decent pounding and kept on ticking. With the exception of loosing one of the fasteners holding on the licence plate, everything else is intact. The network connection where I'm staying is extremely slow so I'll try and post pics later. Want to get to Moab in the worst way. Had planned to go a in 2008 but had an accident and was benched for the riding season. So it's back on my bucket list. Did you hook up with a guide or buy a map of the trail systems in conjunction with a GPS?
I was lucky and rode with my nephew who was in Moab in 2008 and had a very good understanding of the trails and options. There are a couple of very good books that do a great job of covering and documenting trails in Moab. I'll look up the titles and post here. The nice thing is that there are a wide variety of trails spanning the spectrum of difficulty - we alternated between easy, moderate and difficult, depending on how hard we worked the day before. The fact is, my physical conditioning, rather than the bike, determined how much, and how hard I rode. The bike was capable of covering ANY terrain I pointed it at - unfortunately, I wasn't. I happen to suck at riding deep, soft, sand. Give me rock and a nice dirt road, and I'm a happy camper. I did buy a Garmin 60csx GPS and down loaded a free topo map that coved Moab, and also included many of the trails. A definite must. That and a large Camelback! Plan your trip now! Just talk with people who have been there and pic trails for what your looking for and go. Not real hard to find most of the good stuff. Lots of it is close to Moab and has maps and trail sighs etc.
I LOVE Moab....heck Utah in general. I have a tentative trip later this year. Be my 4th time out there from mtn bikes to rockcrawling to dual sports.
October is usually better weather wise for Moab, that's when I go. You have a chance for snow in October, but it'll melt within a few hours and daytime temps are usually in the 60s to 70s. Brad.
