Lugging motor?

Hello everyone. I'm breaking in my 09 450te. I am trying to not overrev the bike or lug the motor during these critical times. My question is, what RPM is considered lugging. when riding at 3800rpm the motor seems to be lugging. About 4100rpm is where this bike starts to streatch its legs a bit and I have not been past 6000rpm so far. I cant wait to see how this compares to the old ride I had once I break this motor in. Its not the revs but the gear, ie if you are assending a hill in first 3800 would not be lugging but it may well be so in third. In terms of breaking in, don't be too cautious. Ride it with respect and don't wring the stuffings out of her. Change the oil and filter pretty regularly till about 1000 miles on the clock. I believe it is good for engines to experience a bit of variance in load during the the first few rides to help bed the engine in.

Feels like it's lugging because it's choking on excess fuel. (IMO)

If you don't have access to the software to tweak it - pull out the spark arrestor, turn the idle air bleed (thumbscrew) to 2 3/4 turns from fully seated to bring the idle up to 1850-2000rpm. That's about all you can do - unless you have access to oxygenated fuel.

I'm assuming the bike has been "powered-up".

My 09 510 was the same. Pull the spark plug and you'll find it black.
