I was riding past my closest neighbour this morning and saw him cleaning one of his bikes. I stopped to say hello and talk bikes for a minute. He just bought a yamaha tracer, so we talked about it for a while, then we talked longer about his moto morini 1200 scrambler, then about his guzzi, then his kawasaki, and so on lol In a corner of his garage, I saw the same Maico as this one, not exactly as perfect but still good looking, and taking dust. He said he had not ridden it for a while due to numerous bikes, a bad knee, and little problems on the bike ( clogged jets maybe, bad spark plug,... no biggy ). He is a big guy, I mean bigger than me, maybe 240 lbs , and he says the front lifts in third gear, even if leaning on the handlebars. He does not seem to be willing to sell, but just in case, do you think it would be worth buying ? ( I am no expert in restoring bikes like my fellow countryman Visiteur1948 , but I can do with basics ) Pro: - The bike is street legal ( number plate and paper ). - Those big 2st engine bikes are bits of history Cons: - the mpg is close to a muscle car's , that is what it takes to push even harder than a 500 CR ! - Starting is a pita from what I have seen Any thoughts?
Buy it! just make sure to park at the top of a hill Seriously, can you even get parts for that? I thought Mstar had some serious issues. Didn't they use the 440 motor and call it a 500? It looks good, maybe that's the WC version of the 490 motor
petty sure theirs a crazy brit or two that has the parts deal covered you can get a totally brand new repop 81 maico or a totally new NEW Maico Maicos only U.K. I THINK IM A LOT MORE WORRIED ABOUT HUSKY PARTS THAT I WOULD BE PARTS FOR THAT
Any engine parts are made by zebel and are still in production I'm fairly sure. http://zabel-motor.com/en/home/ If your worried about plastics then pull them off and make a fibreglass copy... maybe even get a set vacuum moulded outta thin lexan then paint them from the inside.? Buy it if you can, then nail the starting technique.
Given the opportunity I would be all over that thing. So cool and the fact that it's street legal just sweetens the pot, not that you'd want to putt along in rush hour traffic on it, or it would be willing to do so for that matter.
