Hi can anyone recommend a dealer who they have been impressed with based in Melbourne or near Melbourne. I am looking for someone who actually knows something about the bike. Last service was 30 k and BMW workshop did it - good job but they only want to work on BMW bikes and don't want to do the TR650 again. The dealer I bought the bike from was clueless about the bike - I still have resultant damage from their attempt at a service. Any referrals would be welcome.
Not too many of those around...Ringwood? As for any Melb TR guru worth their salt....happy to listen what others come up with, looking around desperately myself.
Thanks Glitch tried BM at Ringwood competent but never wanted to see my bike again - awesome customer service after giving them $750. Need someone to do the value clearance checks other than that I do most of the other stuff myself
Mate just go to Moto GC in Thomastown I bought both my Huskies there and they are fantastic, they have the new diagnostic tool there too and look after the many Terras they sold
And THAT'S exactly the reason I'm not "just going anywhere"!! After long and repeated discussions with the PFG National Service Manager (still responsible for warranty claims etc), not ONE dealer in Vic has the new OSS stuff. A few are diddling around with the KTM service tablet that only can reset the service-warning and run a couple of minor checks. (which apparently can also still be done with the dealer-software of the old BMW-MOSS) Otherwise my Strada would have loooong been trailered across there (or anywhere around the South here...Brisbane is just a little too far away) to hook it up and try and get it going again.
The problem is that (same as for oil and tyre brands) for every person who says a particular dealer is crap, you'll find someone who thinks that dealer is the best ever. Would help to know which dealer you don't want to be referred back to. I put in another vote for MotoGC, but mainly because I tend to just go to the nearest dealership for convenience (and this shop is a 20 minute bus ride or a 90 minute walk from home), but also because I have bought a number of bikes from Glenn the owner there at this shop and other dealerships he has worked at over the past 15 years and the attitude at this shop surpasses many others.
Actually had the TR SERVICED!!! there?? Meaning a real service, maybe even a warranty repair?, not just a 1000km first oil change or such. Or just bought bikes there?
Okay , I took my husky to Moto GC to get the valve clearances done they also suggested the air box mod and a leak down test. I also asked them to also drill 3 mm holes in the swing arm. I found the guys very knowledgable about the bike and they turned the job around quickly. No complaints from me . They drained a litre of water from the swing arm ( so definitely worth doing ). I then did a 2000 km ride ( Adelaide and back ). Bike ran really well no issues at all. I've done 34000 km on the bike and leak down was 17 % which for that mileage is very acceptable. Thanks for the referral guys and Glitch might be worth you checking them out.
Sounds like a happy customer, good to hear. Out of warranty now, so I'll be doing my own wrenching. With 1.5-2hrs of travel to get there, then return, then double that for the pickup, there's at least 6-8 hrs of city+train travel involved ....enough time for 2 average services, incl. beer , methinks.
Hi LED , the whole job being valve clearance check , taking out the air box cleaning and sealing it and the leak down test was 5 hours. All up it cost me circa $500. I have had clearances checked every 10k and so far no adjustment has been required. I'm now doing clearance checks every 20k.
