I'm planning a week long trip to Baja (my first) and understand that gas there may be of questionable quality. Anyone had experience with that in a modern FI bike (mine is a 2008 TE 450 with power up). At home I run Mobil 93 octane and suspect octane there will be significantly lower. I'm not a big believer in octane booster but would appreciate any advice. Thanks!
You've got a good question there. Can't say about the petrol, but I can tell you one thing: Don't drink the water Hope you have a good trip!
the gas is fine, according to George, a veteran of Baja. He thinks it's better (no corn) I'm pretty sure and we filled up from the pumps withOut adding race gas on the one trip I went on. "Nova" means leaded if you see it Green pump color is not diesel
"No va" is Spanish for "No Go." There was a big debacle about the Chevy Nova when it was first exported to Mexico...
Run the Supreme found in larger cities( RED) pump, it's what we race with in Baja mixed with race gas. But for just riding it's better than our pump here ( no smog crap in it). The ( Green ) pump is Magna Sin on par with here almost, not as good but better than the old Nova. If any problems down there give a call (714) 540-2920. Later George
Thanks for the guidance. I've heard that gas in more remote areas isn't from actual gas stations but hand pumped from containers, or worse yet, from gallon jugs and the like. Guess that's what had me worried - not that we'll have much choice... Someone had suggested carrying octane booster but I'm not a believer and don't need any more weight.
