I was thinking about taking the stock ecu and using microsquirt. Does anyone know how the returnless system works? It looks like the fuel pump sees a constant voltage so does that mean it works by using the injectors? Or is there something in the throttle body I'm missing.
On the inside of the pump assembly mounting plate casting there is a spring loaded bypass valve that relieves excess fuel pressure above 40psi. How well the the pressure is regulated and how much is varies from bike to bike I don't think is well known. I may be possible that the microsquirt has a analog input that could be used to monitor fuel pressure and compensate injector timing. Doing a microsquirt conversion sure would be an interesting and likely time consuming project. You would certainly be a lot smarter or insane in the end.
