Has anyone used the e-09's? I got on the ride late and there were no more Terra's available in Australia, so l got a Strada, wonderful bike, love it dearly. Most of my riding is to and from work, about 60k's round trip, but also like to hit the dirt, mainly roads and paths, have an XR600 for the hard stuff, with upto 400kms a day on dirt roads. The standar tires are next to useless on anything but the bitumen. I am looking at getting a set of the mitas e-o9's for the Strada and was wondering people's opinions.

    Hi ya Moff,

I also have a Strada (perth based) and it sounds like you do similar riding to myself. Though i can't vouch for the e09's which are 80/20 off road bias i can vouch for the e07's which are a 50/50 tyre. The feel great on the hard stuff after they are worn in after a few 100 k's, a bit squirrely until then. As for offroad in sand, gravel and a bit of mud if not too deep they hold up.

Ive done about 3000km on them, mostly on black top and they are wearing quite well.

Im sorry i couldnt help you with the e09's but i hope this helps all the same.

    Cheers!

Thanks for the feed back on the 07's, l was thinking of them also. My riding buddy has a KTM640ADV and we do push the speed a bit on the dirt, so l was looking for something a little more aggressive then the 07's.
If you are ever over this way, drop us a line.

Might as well fit spoke wheels if you want to go fast on dirt. Bend one of them cast wheels and you can toss it in the skip.

Cast doesn't usually bend so much as break... So, x2 on the spoked set.

A mate of mine is currently out near Cameron's Corner on his 800XC with E09 Dakars taking part in the APC rally. I think it's his first set of Mitas so when he gets home I'll be getting his opinion. In the first few days of the rally they've had to deal with sand and mud through the deserts in western victoria as well as the stony roads in the flinders ranges. By the time they get back home they'll have been through just about every possible riding condition.

Before heading to Baja, I picked up a rear E-09. I was glad I did. It handled everything from sand, silt, gravel, rocks to tarmac. Its still in good shape after 4000km. I used a more aggressive front tire then the E-09. Though in hindsight I should have just picked up an E-09. I'll probably pick one up in the next couple weeks anyway.

Thanks guys, will eventually be getting aset of spoked wheels, just no money in the budget as yet.
That would be great thanks Nev.
Sounds like that would have been a great trip Eca.

Mounted an E-09 on my 630, nice tire off road, surprisingly good on road.
Downside to me is wore out at 2000 kms and a bugger to change. That being said, I have plans to buy it again.

The E-09 Dakar is stiffer than the regular E-09 and will last you a bit longer.
On my Tenere I used the C-02, which is very agressive and awesome in the dirt, but a bit more twitchy on the road as a E-09.

I should clarify that I used the E-09 Dakar yellow strip rear. The front I used the C-21 Stone Eater; and it did just what its name implies. Awesome in the dirt. But anything over 115km on tarmac and your taking your life in your hands. Baja was pretty epic. Will be heading down there next year as well. But you have some epic riding there, enjoy wearing out which ever tires you get.

I have Dakar E09 on rear and Pirelli mt21 on the front. E09 is wearing well at 3500km now, now a lot of sand, mud and rock riding covered, as well as highway at 120kph to get to my trail riding. The mt21 took 500+km to settle down on the road. The rear feels goods when I corner and inspires comfidence for an off road tyre.
I hope you enjoy the Mitas, I'll be sticking with it and likely try a front one wlso in another 4000km.

I had a set of E09Dakar put on my Terra yesterday. Had good review from a mate who put them on his Triumph 800XC. I have read that 0/10 review before as well, but tyres are like... umm... tyres. You can get 10 different opinions from 10 different people about the same tyre on the same bike.

I am very happy with the E09D on my Terra. Compared to the Karoo 2. the Karoo front tyre was awful to start with - refused to turn into corners, and took about 150km to round off the edges. The front E09D was quite good turning in, and just needed a bit of rounding off but after 100km almost no hesitation at all on tip in. The Karoo 2 rear tyre came back from it's first ride with big chunks of the leading edges of the knobs torn off (this was obviously just the tyre settling in and removing the bits which were causing some resistance perhaps) and the tyre only lasted 3500km or so. Happy that after 150km on the E09D rear that there is some very slight smooting on the trailing edge of the knobs in the centre, but initial indication is that these will be a very long wearing tyre (more than 3500km at least). I'd be happy with 5000km.

Well the E09's had an interesting start, it was raining heavy when l picked the bike up and had a very sideways ride back to work, was fun, third gear power slides are fun :). The ride home they were a lot more civilized and rode well, little bit of road noise and vibration but stick well, had a couple of fine days and put a few more k's on them and are working well with me hitting the left side peg on a couple of corners, l most seem to corner hard to the left, don't know why. Had them in the dirt and they hooked up well, witht the type of riding l will be doing, l will not be testing the traction limits of them to much, mainly gravel roads with a bit of sand and mud thrown in for good measure, no hard core single trail for me anymore.
