As an ice tire builder I'm wondering if anybody out there is familiar with these tires. A friend has built some to test for the Cold Cutter and wants me to test some as well. Merry Christmas.

Ok, thanx as I know that there is a Canadian no liner ice tire that buddy is testing, maybe tomorrow upstate NY. So these are the replacement for the Trellies, got it.
Testing My tire is going out today to N.Y. as BR78 had no screws to finish his right-left turn rear. I forgot I had a left and right turn tire, they remembered it from last year. Got a Fredette last year for almost no money from fle-bay that was never run. Should be able to come up next time they play. Our paths should cross sometime this winter. I road a set of these on a cr500 last year, over the top fun. http://www.marcelfournier.ca/index-en.php
I've heard of those screws, they will spoil ya for sure. Warming up here in north jersey again, damn.
My tire-building riding partner just built a rear on one of these. It was "ok", great lean angles and predictable on corner entries, but it tended to light up on exits under power. It's his first go with one of these and he is going to try some tweaks to fine-tune it. Worked pretty good through the fluff. Fredette Motoz 's are poping up all over around here.....
I'm on it and will build one as soon as I can. The compound is quite different than the normal tire. Send a pic of the tire and maybe I'll see something in the slot angle and screw angle. The acceleration screw angle is critical as Stewie knows. Been working with two fast guys all winter and we are on a mission. One is kicking ass, the other one won every heat, won the pole, lead till the last 2 laps then got taken out at the Utah indoor ICE series. He didn't like my first attempt at an indoor tire tho, bummer.
Thanks Steve, Stewie is dying to talk tires with you and has tried your number a few times.... I'll direct him to this thread and see if he can post a pic....
Sorry I missed his calls. Have him leave a message and I'll get right back if I can't answer the phone. I may have been under a boiler or under a kitchen sink swearing at myself when he called. LOL.
I'm interested in this as well, are there any comparisons between the motoz and the ice king yet? I've always noticed with my Fredette motoz that under braking the rear detaches and slides around, I have the same tire built by a local that stays hooked all the time and I love it! Heard rumor the ice king detaches and slides around but don't know if thats just due to the builder? At the same time I heard the ice king is better than the motoz in everyway . would like to know what's true?
I call that "skating" and is really a trait of the tire build. I actually really like to ride a tire that skates heavily when you let off. Generally, a tire that skates will hook like Velcro as soon as you open the throttle just a touch. They are a ton of fun and can be helpful coming into corners with a high entrance speed. However, for racing in traffic they can be sketchy and I prefer one with moderate skate. Will we see you at the 3hour endurance race?? http://www.steelshoefund.org/index.php?file=3hour I'm still expecting you to sell me that 19" wheel for the 125 that is just wasting your garage space and collecting dust!!
My rears skate very little as I build alot of braking in for our short tracks. We have a 2 day race weekend coming up in NY and they are calling for rain. Our club is snake bit when it comes to ice races, unreal. My rear knobbies will be the go to tire when it warms up this sunday, like cheating. I'll build a few more for the weekend.
Not looking to good for us out this way for Sunday. Some N.Y. racers drove out this way last weekend. Now this skate as we call it under braking is normal from what I can tell any time the rear tire stops turning. The bike just starts to slide. We had a few new riders out this past weekend and all of them had to be told "stay off the brake" at some time during the day. I enter the turn and leave the throttle open just a little then its back on the gas. Its not the same on ice as clay so setting the bike with the rear just causes it to slide, just my .02.
Shaky weather this weekend for us with big snow now on the way. Ya never know. The screws turned slighty stop the skating and gives great braking going in. Built this the other night.
This tire is the one like Fredettes but doesn't skate nearly as bad. I thinks its the best one I've ridden so far, built locally.
I wish building ice tires wasn't such a black art because I'd love to understand how its done, what does what, if this changes this happens kinda stuff. Unfortunately a few people put a lot of trial and error time into building and testing these and I don't blame them for being tight lipped.
I started building ice tires for my Maico in 1976, the tires are still spinning. LOL. I sell mostly fronts and 2 local pros are undefeated on them. All my buddies buy them as well. It is a black art for sure and very little money in it considering the labor and bandaides. Setting up a big bore XR 100 this morning for my babes kid. I'm racing sunday on tires I haven't tested yet, too busy to get out and ride.
