If your local dealer, like mine, has returned his/her Moss tool to BMW, here is what Husqvarna has told me my options are: 1. Find a BMW/Husqvarna dealer who has a tool up and running and go there or, 2. As an alternative, have your dealer remove the ECU, Dashboard, key etc. and send them into Husqvarna where they will mount them to bike and run the tool and then send it all back for reinstallation. My phone calls to BMW indicated that they have washed their hands on Husky and will not support them by getting the Husky software or connectors unless they already have the tool and sell Husqvarna. After batting out there, I contacted KTM and one service rep told me and I quote ".. If KTM owns Husky, it's news to me.." (Remember, it's a private holding company of the KTM Owner - Not KTM Directly from what I gather.) So, I am looking for a shop in a nearby state where I might take the bike. Does anyone have any recommendations in Arizona or Colorado? If not and Husky won't reimburse fuel and lodging, I may be going for option #2.
Leo, did PJ's in Albuquerque send their MOSS back? I hope not. The dealer in Muskogee, Oklahoma, does not have one as far as I know. I will check next week when I'm in the area.
Big D Motorsports in Woodland Park, CO has the MOSS tool and is not getting rid of it. I confirmed this with Dan, the owner, last week. He's a great guy and runs a great shop. He's not far from Colorado Springs. Not too bad of a trip from Albuquerque. There is a shop down in Montrose too but I haven't dealt with them so I'm not sure if they have the MOSS tool or not.
Yeah there is a shop in montrose CO, that's where I got my bike. Seriously doubt they have the moss tool as they only had a few Terra's and no stradas.
My guess is that the dash is married to the ECU - perhaps to keep the odometer accurate. you won't be able to swap the odo out without a moss tool. The key is also mapped to the dash + ecu. not sure why they would design it that way, who knows it may be a software licensing issue. God knows those things are screwed up enough!
My Terra is back at PJ's as I write this - It overheated on me three times in local traffic - Apparently, it's an issue they are aware of since they have radiators, thermostats and caps in stock! I can't trust it for a jaunt up to Colorado and I don't think I should have to pay for the gas to take it up in my F-150 or for the hotel overnight. However, I may have to resort to that. We'll see... One issue at a time.
Sorry for your troubles..the overheating issue is probably a big air bubble....it's been covered here somewhere and on Adv. Rider too I believe. Finding a dealer who's willing to help and your problems will be over. I believe many of the overheating issues were caused from the dealer not following a set procedure when brand new. Allowing several minutes to idle....theirs a thread somewhere that covers this too. I wish you were closer...we have Eurosport in Asheville NC. they'd be glad to help if your ever close. You are one step closer to finding the answer just from postin on Cafe Husky...invaluable information here. Good luck....you'll get it right I believe!
Dont despair, the orphanage is getting larger. More Stradas are on their way to dealers. Imagine that a bike owner could buy or rent a cable to connect the bike to a computer and then a technician could access and adjust that bike from anywhere in the world. We do this all the time with computer software now.....there just needs to be a little paradigm shift to get this to happen in the motorcycle world.
That issue is so widespread I doubt it's the dealers fault. More likely the factory procedure is faulty, if there is one.
Likely that after the first 10 or 20 reports of overheating by dealers they came up with a "procedure" Absoultey right that it should have been handled at the factory....maybe as easy as having the bike run long enough to reach operating temp then topping off the fluids.
Was happening to me. Amazing how just the small bubbles makes such a difference. At least with mine there was barely any bubbles come out but popped the radiator cap filled it to the top and watched it warm up. Presto no more problems
The dealer was, as of yesterday, waiting to take it on a more lengthy ride - 20 miles or so at highway speeds - and then pull over and let it idle for a period. I'm hoping they know about the bubble/burping issue but they are pursuing a stoppage somewhere in the radiator since they are receiving reports that one side of the rad is hot and the other side not. We'll see.
I'm new here and not sure where to post this. I just bought a new Terra. Here in eastern Canada it's getting a bit cold so I haven't had much chance to ride it yet and so far have not noticed any issues. My question is regarding the MOSS process. I've noticed several folks post that they do not have an issue with the bike but still noticed a marked improvement after having it MOSSed. What is Huskies take on the MOSS process? Do I need to be experiencing a specific issue to have it done? I know my dealer does NOT have the tool. If it does always make an improvement, why are the bikes not shipped from the factory with it done?
Sounds like we need to get a confirmed list of dealers with the MOSS tool and the intent to keep them.
I can confirm through more than one conversation, most recently a couple weeks ago, that Big D's in Woodland Park, CO has no plans to get rid of their MOSS tool. Dan is committed to servicing the Terra's and Strada's he sold. I'm very happy about this.
