Is there a known submount for the Motoports steering damper that would also fit the Highway Dirt Bikes top clamp/handguard system? I have a '07 TE610 with 7/8 stock bars. Want to change to fat bars and the HDB system and get some rise, yet preserve the ability to mount a stabilizer. A KTM PT Enduro submount for a Scotts stabilizer has been found to work with the HDB sysatem on a TE610, but I have a hankering for the Motoportz stabilizer! Maybe the Motoportz damper bracket can be adapted to fit a Scotts sub mount? I know the pin will be an issue, but I can tackle that. - Mike
Hey Neighbor to the north. We are working on it. I also have some top clamps with HG mount wings that might work with the HDB stuff. We are busy running in circles right now (seems hard to get out of) but trying to get to it.
If you need a test mule I am here for you, and a willing customer when you are ready. Maybe even a ride down to visit if need be provided it is not too cold. I ride every day, but have my limits on ice. :-) I have a trip to Death Valley starting Feb 12 and Moab not long afterwards so trying to sort this out by then. I should add I am planning to mount some switches on the HDB top clamp, hence another reason I was going toward a under bar mount - keeping the clutter off the bars and unobstructed access to the instruments. - Mike
Damper post mounting idea I am looking for a submount option on my TE610 ('07) (also converting to fat bars). I know the damper post mounting has been heavily discussed with concern over strength of the welded tank mount post. Kelly has come up with a bolt on solution straddling the tank, but it also was an over the bar solution. Looking at a homebrew solution by another rider recently, where he used the stock gas tank mount post, it gave me an idea for a no-weld solution that might address most of the manufacturing concerns. Not totally bolt on, but not difficult either. Still untested. http://www.advrider.com/forums/showpost.php?p=11551664&postcount=14495 Give it a look and see what you think. Personally I think using the tank post for a short underbar mount pin will be just fine. The tank washer would distribute much of the sideways forces. Even if the tank post the weld breaks, I would just ty-wrap the tank down and keep riding. It is not going to be a critical issue, and it would be an excuse to beef up the post weld if that happened. - Mike
