    Dear Motosportz,

I received one of your billet tail racks for Christmas. I finally am getting around to putting it on my TE610 and am running into an issue.

The rear bracket that is on the 610 that normally would hold an above-fender rack is preventing the mounting of the Motosportz tail rack. The bracket has an angle after the second rearward hole that interferes with the Motosportz rack -- it is preventing the attachment of the Motosportz rack to the subframe at more than one point.

There were no instructions or documentation with the Motosportz rack, and therefore I'm at a loss as to how to mount this puppy up. I've already relocated the rear signals, so those are not an issue.

Can you help me figure out how this is supposed to mount? Without any instructions it's becoming perplexing. Also, the bolts supplied with the rack don't seem long enough to go through the rack, spacer, aluminum bracket, and subframe, with any threads protruding to attach a nut on the outside.

I'd love to get this rack attached but am pulling my hair out at this point.

    Thanks much for any/all help!

I know taskys mounts the horizontal bracket between the vertical ones fowrard one hole, in other words you only use the front 2 holes, this gives room to clear. If a bike has the taillight assemble from the power up kit this usually isn't a issue. Hope this helps and is understandable.

Even if I didn't need to get a bolt through the rearmost mount hole on the Motosportz rack, the aluminum bracket to which the black fender (taillight assembly) bolts has the bend downward that won't allow it to clear the Motosportz rack.

I toyed with the idea of completely removing the aluminum bracket, but then the taillight assembly will only attach at one point each side and would "ride" on the rear of the Motosportz rack, and that'll break the plastic before long.

The Motosportz photos were helpful in seeing how the rack SHOULD mount, but they have it mounted on a bike that has a one-piece fender, where the '08 TE610 has the two piece; mudguard (white) and taillight assembly (black).

I have a power up kit but it consisted of a brass bung, Leo Vince X3 pipe, and plug for the lambda sensor. No tailpiece was included.

Hopefully this picture will help explain further:

In BLUE are the points to which the MotoSportz rack would mount.

In ORANGE are the points to which the taillight assembly (60) mounts to the aluminum bracket (16)

The area cirled in RED is the point where the aluminum bracket bends downward and interferes with the Motosportz rack as the Motosportz rack piece extends aft of its final mounting hole.

Removal of the aluminum bracket (16) would leave the taillight assembly attached only at the foremost of the ORANGE points; it would not be secured.

(Pics are for an SM610 but the TE610 is the same concept)

Just curious if you were ever able to figure out how to mount the rack and still utilize your taillight assembly?

Nope. I've been trying different things but the bottom line is that the aluminum bracket has to go if I want to mount the rack. That means also giving up the taillight assembly.

I know Kelly at Motosportz is out of the office right now. Maybe he'll chime in with an idea when he has a chance. Otherwise I think I may need to ask him if I can return the unused rack for a refund.
