  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Motoz?

Seems a while back these tires were the rage, but nobody seems to be discussing them anymore. Have they fallen out of favor? One of my projects over the winter is to ditch the OEM Karoos and put on some decent rubber. My riding is about 80% offroad and 20% road with the offroad in soft to intermediate terrain. If Motoz is not the solution, what is? Thanks for your opinions.

I like the Pirelli MT21 in the rear and the Pirelli Scorpion Pro in front. They work well for me and they last a long time.

Mike, I mounted a Motoz Enduro IT front this summer and it works very good. Several rides with very little wear. I had Pirelli Scorpion XCMS previously and while they worked good, they wore out super fast. I run a MX51 IT rear.

Motoz Enduro IT front and rear. Good tire.

same set-up came equipped with the bike I bought "new to me". Other than the pretty loud humming on asphalt, wouldn't think twice to replace the rear with another motoz. I decided to go to a Kenda trackmaster mid season under recommendation from fellow local riders and went to a narrower profile 120 vs 130...Trackmaster is a much quieter tire on asphalt. The motoz front and trackmaster rear now have a wack of Kold Kutter ice screws and am awaiting the winter storm until I venture out again....metal screws and asphalt...don't mix...it took me less than 200 m to find this out...

I have 3 bikes and have motoz on all of them. ive used a few other brands but have had the best results with motoz. I have tried basically every model they make and really liked all of them. I run the enduro S/T in the front on all my bikes all the rears are good for what type of riding motoz advertises they are. the s/t upmfront is nice because its the only model that come in 90/100-21 very wide tire really helps with front end washing out if the psi is dialed in.Follow the recommendations for what type of riding you will be doing and you won't be disappointed. Also the newer motoz tires are DOT approved to so you can pass inspection. If you decide to buy them from a distributor make sure they state they are DOT

Enduro IT front - good tyre and long lasting
Desert HT back - only tried it because the shop didn't have an IT in stock. Good tyre and worked really well in some areas but took it off due to not being suited to where I ride. Dunlop MX31 on back now.
I'd buy enduro IT front again and will try one on the back next tyre.

After so many good reviews I just bought a pair. The guy I bought them from told me the feedback he's getting from the front's is unbelievable.

So while we're at it, how do you pronounce Motoz? I thought moe-toes, but I've heard moto, and moto-zed.

That's good question. I have been of the opinion that the o z part was supposed to be emphasized because of the OZ heritage, so I have pronounced the name "moat o z". But I have no idea if it is correct.

I like on my dirt bikes but sometimes have a D803 or MT 43 trials tire on the back. I have tried STs, ITs, and Terapactors and like them all.

I knew the ITs have been DOT for awhile, but they all are now?

A semi large group of ride buddies think the Terrapactor front is one of the all time best for our NW stuff. It is a really good tire, very predictable and lots of bite.

The IT front is a very long lasting do it all tire. IT is not the ultimate race tire but covers a nice variety of terrains well, is very robust and lasts a long time. Very good all around trail bike tire. DOT If you are pretty fast and huck the bike over hard there are better tires.

The rears are all just good IMHO. Some of my customers swear by the IT Rear. Many like the ST rear as well. I like the Terrapactor but it is a little light weight for rocks and heavy abuse as it is a MX deigned tire and lighter.

The HT is a good Dez and big DS tire. Crosses over to mud good but not great. The front is odd. Only tried one.

I think all but the Terrapactor are DOT. Very good tires for reasonable IMHO.
