AGIP only sells by the case, so I'm thinking of an alternative. Anyone know if Motul is a safe alternative?

Using Motorex 10w-60 also; I can get it locally. Works fine for me.

Motorex as well. I recently bought some Motul fully synthetic 10-60 because it was cheaper, it is ready to go for my next oil change.

Motul 5100 10/50 synthetic. Just changed it. Filter bit gunky coloured but all else/screens good.

Do you guys who run 10-50 or 15-50 find that the bike shifts better?

Yep, i need something to make it shift better as well, any ideas?
What grade of oil is recommended in the manual for interests sake?

The Motul 300V 15-50 is very good and seems to smooth out the shifting on mine although it doesn't help finding neutral at a stop light.... I've got the downshift to neutral technique working fine, though. I've used a variety of synthetic oils and Moterex, Motul and even Repsol have been pretty good in regards to smoothing out the shifting. The manual says
AGIP 10-60, if I remember correct. I personally use only motorcycle grade but lots of people
use the Rotella diesel oil with no problems. Do a back search for oil threads and you will
find lots of info, I'm sure.

I'd get the best oil you can afford and if you can change it like every 500miles or so your motor will thank you no end.

It may be OK, but I wouldn't run automotive oil. Clutch isn't liking it either. Good oil and changing intervals are inexpensive compared to engine components.

+1 Even with Motorex you are talking $30 or so for an oil change. It it keeps the motor happy and delays expensive overhauls it is money well spent and some piece of mind!

Maybe try chip fat? If it has bits of chips in there too you're golden! [IMG] No, seriously mate, don't scrimp, it's a false economy. You can pay shedloads for oils but just get the best bike oil you can afford. If it's a real low grade stuff then change it/filter more often. You might find an internet deal buying more, but you'll use it over time and save a few quid in the process.

Go with the Syn or Dino Shell Rotella T... Buy it at Wal-Mart by the gallon. Much, much better than the car oil & won't break the bank. I've been running it in SM610 & other dirt bikes for years with no problem... Hell, Rekluse even recommends using it for their Auto_clutches... Just make sure to change it at 3,000 miles or less (which you should be doing with any oil)

Should i use a 'flush' to get rid of the old oil before putting the better stuff in?

You could flush with some fresh oil to help push the old out.
