I know whats good but still want some of your good opinions. where they are made, wet riding choices, strength, stiffness, etc. I have use Sidi,Gaerne and Alpinestars (current boots) anyone use Jet boots?
Always been an Alpinestars man myself. Recently tried out a pair of Tech 7's and hated them. Couldn't feel the ground or pegs through the soles. Felt very disconnected from the bike. Stuck with T 8's.
I just made an inquiry to Jett, asking them what their boots actually weigh. I have been weighing boots lately, I guess because I'm getting old and tired of trying to swing a heavy boot over the bike (especially after Saturday's fiasco, where I nearly gave myself a concussion and sprained my neck after snagging one of my 4 1/2 pound boots on the fender bag while dismounting and falling on my back). Okay, I am officially old. Anyway, I thought that it was just age that made boots feel so heavy, but after getting out my digital fish scale and weighing some boots around the house, I found that that wasn't it. Boots have gotten much heavier through the years. My original Fullbores weigh about 2.73 pounds a piece, while one later Hipoint GP Pro mx boot weighs 2.20. A modern Thor Quadrant goes about 3.19, a Forma Raptor goes about 4.2, while a Gaerne SG10 ges a whopping 4.39. That's like adding 9 pounds to your feet when you go riding! And that's for small sizes. You guys with bigger feet will be wearing even heavier boots. I would like to try a Sidi Charger or the Jett. I would be willing to give up a little rigidity if need be for lighter weight.
Sidi and Gaerne are all I wear anymore. I can't stand anything without hinged ankles. Once you go there you can't go back. I have a pair of Crossfire TA's and some S10's. I like them both really well, but I'd have to give it to the Sidi. The Sidi are very comfortable, offer a huge amount of protection and are very water tight, as long as you don't get too far above the ankles. I think my next pair will be Chargers. My buddy swears they're just as good as the Crossfire, but the leather on the insides holds up better to four strokes and doesn't wear on you bike so bad. But, then, I would like to try some S12's, too.
My last two pair of high end boots were Crossfires and Tech-10. Ive worn the Sidi's for the past 7 months and the Tech-10's for the two years prior to that. Crossfire TA: - Good: Light, great water resistance, great feel, good protection, best buckles in the business, slim toe. - Bad: Two hinge clips have come off, squeak. Tech-10: - Good: Great protection, very durable. - Bad: Water gets right in, I could never get them comfortable, thick toe, inner bootie. If I were wide open racing I would pick the Tech-10 for the better toe box and ankle protection. I've had a torn Achilles and wouldn't want to go through that again. But I won't hesitate to recommend the Sidi's for woods racing/riding.
thanks, I am partial to Sidi lately, most of my crew use them and I like the low toe layout and as stated the hinged ankle. Just shopping around now will drop coin soon. Daggone things are mucho costly!! Still curious about the new Jett boots (very lite) Italian designed from one of the well known MX boot designers after he left another brand's office. I mentioned the wet stuff, even though we dont get much, but when we have water here my A-stars get soaked and super heavy, Thanks for sidi anti water news.
I just picked up a pair of tech 3's cheap from a place liquidating their shop. I got what I paid for and can't shift the bike.
The Sidi boots are top notch I use the hinged ancle with non replaceable sole they feel broke in on the first ride. and the feel of the brake and shift lever is perfict.
The last pair of boots that I owned that actually kept the water out were a set of Hipoint Victory boots. All my boots these days are like a couple of aquariums on my feet when I ride during a deluge.
Yeah, I know what you mean about the shifting. I've had a lot of trouble shifting with these boots, particularly with accidental neutrals. Very frustrating! I've used them for the season, but I think I'll be looking at something else shortly.
Sidi boots are very good. I went from A-Stars Tech 5's to Sidi Flex Force SRS. This boot has been supeceded by the Crossfire. As Drew said, I would go with the permanent sole. The SRS (Sole Replacement System) doesn't quite work as advertised. The hinged ankle is great, but had really keep all the hardware tight or you start losing parts. They are very waterproof until the gaiter starts to wear out. I got a lot of wear out of the Sidi's, but the toebox was a little low and tight for me. I went to A-Stars Tech 6, but couldn't deal with a non-hinged ankle boot after wearing Sidi's for quite a few years. I tried Gaerne SG10's because of the higher, wider toe box and love them. Theyare as good or better than the Sidi's in every respect and are wearing better with less hardware issues. Friend has SG10 and SG12's and prefers the SG10's Sidi, Gaerne or maybe TCX's
Some may not consider them, but I am real happy with my AXO boxer enduro boots. I coated them real good with SnoSeal and a couple days in the sun to soak it up. So far feet stay dry. Boots feel fine on and off the bike. The tread is why I bought them as I don't really like a slick MX sole.
I have an kind of a deal with the AXO boots and may go there only because of that. I have never used them. But a s far as open purchase goes I still am leaning towards the Sidi non replacable as you Sidi guys stated. We have the local sole performance resoler here in SD that is even recommended by Motonation (Sidi importer) and also have done at least 3 sole replacements for me over the years so there is always that if needed in the future. Thanks for all the suggestions.
Lashed out & got the Crossfires, nothing else stacks up. Loctite stops the screws from falling out & Silicone spray solves the squeek. Having a large Hoof, other brands I couldn't change gears. The Jetts look the goods, but no reports on them any were
Sidi Crossfires after Alpinestar tech 8. Sidi's best boot I have ever had. Comfortable straight away, great flex at the ankle, lightish and very water resistant.
I have a set of Oxtar Pro TXC's and really like them they are starting to show some wear but still do a good job of protecting my feet. I know they are not popular (which helped to get a deal). But ever since I got them they have been great in terms of mobility and control. The company changed there name to just TXC- I might get another pair in time. I like their system. Its not easy to get parts- broken straps and such- guess they are "exotic".
I really like the Gaerne SG10. Kind of heavy but very comfortable, there is memory foam in side the ankle area.
sidi used to get the nod forever, great service. stuff wore like iron too.....till they got a bug up their butt and the price went through the roof.... now? it's SG10. 200$ less from my LBS, same bomb-proof boot. end of story.
