Went camping this weekend and once I gave my 6 YO daughter a ride on the little DR125 she was hooked. She wants a bike now. Very cool.
yes but you will have to take the 14 YO, this one is my new ride partner. The up side is my 14 YO is more interested in boys than bikes but can run a clutch. this is 2 years ago and my then 12 YO daughter was liking riding... And Mya, my now 6 YO was watching on and talking about one day she could ride. her turn is here and I think i will make a lot more of it. She is my last and my 2 older kids are all off doing other things so this is our time. Really looking forward to making a kick butt dirt rider out of her.
Just get her a bike and ride. The best time I have riding is with my sons, my brother, my nephew, a good mate and his son. They actually sit around the camp and talk to us-amazing.

You're lucky, Kelly! I offered to get my 14 YO daughter a bike, and she wasn't interested. She did say I could get her "one of those 4 wheeled things," but her request was politely declined.
Cool! My little sister started riding when she was only a little older than that and won a womens' harescramble championship not a whole lot later (racing against adults). BTW its a DRZ125, the DR125 is a dual sport A KX60 might fit her well (its a good bit shorter than the 65, but still a pretty spunky little machine).
The oset trails bike is cool but I want a seat for her. The XK60 is probably to fast and has a clutch no? I'm thinking JR50, CRF50 PW50 or PW80. I'm actually leaning towards the PW80. Seems the right size. She is tall but skinny. I want to make sure she gets a real EZ bike to master ASAP and then I will worry about moving her up. If it is super EZ / fun right from the get go with little learning she will stick with it. She has great balance and had no issues controlling the throttle and riding the bike with me on it.
Sounds like she's quite a natural! Yeah the KX60 is fast and has a clutch. The PW80 sounds like a good option. The JR50 is physically really small. The CRF50 is a bit bigger, but is a bit clunky for a light rider - sort of built with half an expectation of being used as a pit bike for dad. Still not a bad option (but you'll probably have to start it for her at first. The Yamaha TTR50E is pretty similar to the CRF50, but has e-start, might suit her well. I've seen a bunch of them at the track with kids riding them, they seem to work well (in the pits at least), but like the CRF50 will probably be a bit small, but maybe that's a good thing for learning purposes. The TTR110E might be a better size and still has an autoclutch. Also e-start. The KLX110 is just a little bigger than the CRF50 and is also auto clutch, I think its kick start though. The PW80 will be a bit lighter than these four strokes though and is certainly not a bad way to go at all. Then there's always the competition oriented 2-stroke minis. They make quite a bit of power, but can be a bit abrupt, at least with the racing clutch setup. I think husqvarna included a beginner clutch with their CR50 that engaged at much lower rpm for a more mild setup. These things are super light and have impressive suspension and brakes and such. KTM also has the 50sx and sx mini. I've also seen LEM and Cobra 50s at the track. have fun!
I've got a CRF50 you can try out if you want. I think it'll be a little small for her once she's comfortable, but it is a great starter bike. And what a cutie! Better teach her that boys are bad news ASAP
Also look at the TTR90. It has the e-start & a kick start, I just got one for my my 6yo daughter who is also tall for her age. She is coming off a PW50 & really likes the 90.
She is cute, and boys are evil I hate to rain on everyones parade, but when choosing bikes don't forget the USA 'lead law' is only on a 'stay' at this point. If that goes back into effect then USA dealers will not be allowed to sell parts to USA people. I'll let you think about what the means, don't want to type any more about that.
Thanks for all the info. Still leaning towards the PW80, seems a light 2st would be the way to go. Good suspension for some semi real trail riding. I really need to take her down and sit her on some bikes for size. She is stoked and eager to ride. Not worried about e-start, i will be with her at all times and she needs to learn to kick a bike. She is not wimpy and does not mind getting dirty. Looking forward to these next few years.
ug. Forgot all about the estart. I doubt it would make any difference for the first bike, but when they stall out in awkward places when a bit older, if they can start their own bike it is much nicer.
Put my daughter on a CRF 50 at six and she crashed alot, bars would twist out of her hands. Put her on a XR 70, heavier yes but crashed alot less and had more fun. I think the little wheels on the 50,s may be a hindrence. I welded adjustable steering stops on a friends CRF 50 and that helped the kiddo a bunch. They dont need trials bike turning anyway. XR 70 is just sitting in the garage if you want to try it, 200 miles away! Have fun and that is precious time she will never forget. My daughter is ten and I put her on a TTR125 last summer at nine, I lowered it and yes the clutch was a issue of fustration but it passed. We rode the Bad Rock reunion ride last weekend together. Ive seen the "boy" thing with a friends daughter and bikes, I told her "dont all the boys ride?" O-ya she said, cost her dad new riding gear that was more "look at me" but he still has his riding buddy. My daughter was sitting on a 81 WR250 in the garage, core bike and said "I think I want this one for my next bike dad, wiped a tear and started on it last night.
