For almost two years my 08 TE 250 has ran flawlessly until the last 10 miles of last weeks ride. The day started off riding through normal fall conditions for this time of year in the mountains. Temps in the low 40's,humid, elevation from 1500 to 4500ft and some snow on the ground.
Bike ran normal all day. On the way back it started raining and the snow that we went through earlier in the day had turned to slush. At about 10 miles to go. My bike started popping, backfiring and surging when I let off on the throttle but it would idle fine. When I got on the gas it ran normal also. I thought that it may be a valve issue since I ride a lot in very humid conditions and the bike had never done this before. The next day I washed the bike. When I hit the button it lit right up as always. After I let it warm up. I rode it and it ran fine. Back to normal. It appears to me that the efi did not adjust to the dramatic change in humidity. What do you efi experts think?
    Thanks for the help,
    Russ

Check your connections on the battery. Loose connections there will make the bike run funny.

I have run into similarproblems in the marine industry... Does your bike use a map sensor or some sort of MAF? I have had complaints on a pretty regular basis about engines running poorly on the second half of the day. The cause is related to the ECU taking a reading from the MAP sensor at initial KOEO and using that to decide how much fuel to use. If you are out riding or boating all day and never turn the key off then this can happen if you get drastic changes in weather. I know it's a long shot but just somehting to think about.

Take all connections apart and clean with electric cleaner, then use electrical connection grease reconnect, you will notice that some connections look sealed when connected and they are, but look where the wire enters the connector some are not sealed, after I cleaned, greased then i wrapped all connections with electrical tape for a nice tight and tidy connection solved all my problems, also make sure that the battery is secured I have had my bust loose and break open then there is not enough juice to keep the bike running well past idle.

I happened to run into James Dean the jetting guru last weekend at a Cycle Gear shop. He had his 09 CRF 450 there promoting his new Power Comander type tuner for the CRF. He thinks that the oem sensor was not capable of adjusting to the extreme humidity change. He said that the efi sytem does not have the ability to adjust for humidity and that the factory sets the bike up to handle a range of humidity that most riders would experience. My bike has been running normal since then.
