Here are my Huskys! I plan to add another TE next year to make into a light adventure bike with a large tank. I might try and find an older one due to large tank availability. We will see how the cards fall for Husqvarna next year, then I will decide. My first hare scramble race on the TE250 is this Sunday! I will let you know how it goes. The goal is to see what it is all about, go have a good time, and finish. Lets see your other Huskys!
Motosportz has been playing around with Lectron carbs...supposed to be a great upgrade! http://www.cafehusky.com/threads/lectron-carbs-for-huskys-available-now-at-motosportz.29763/
Lectron isn't really applicable for fuel injected bikes. Good luck on the harescramble, just keep it mind a few things: 1. It's two hours, you can not win a race on the first lap, but you can lose it. 2. It takes less time to slow and ride smoothly through a section, than to bomb through it and crash. Minimize mistakes. 3. You'll get tired, so will everyone else, keep pushing. Out toughing others on the last lap is good for a couple spots. 4. You'll get passed. You'll likely get lapped. When you hear someone coming up fast and hooting, move over, but don't stop. If they're fast enough to be lapping you, they should be able to pick a smart line around you once they know you aren't going to try to block them. They're addicting.
Fab, have a great time, but don't wad it up! We have too many miles to do this summer. But then you do have time to heal, don't you! Ken
good luck on the hare scramble, that sounds like a complete blast. '07 TE 610 w/ Arrow pipe, IMS 5g, Seat Concepts, Dirtbagz '11 TE 630 w/ Leo Vince, Safari 6.6g, Dirtbagz. Awesome advise, especially #1... thank you msmith345!!! Don't worry Ken! I'll be well and ready for those miles.. The whole reason I made this thread was to see some pics of your TE630, so......? Thanks blakebird...Nice Huskys too! The Platt River Hotel is on my commute to work in the summer. It is good to see it here with a sweet bike in front of it. Motosportz, that is a fine fleet and exactly what I want for next year! Too bad I didn't post this a few days later cause there would be a Motosportz skid plate on the Terra.
Well then, here is my TE630 in it's element, from the 2012 Forever West route. That one is in the Gravely Range. Next, the Pony Express Route. And, well, uh, I try to spend my time riding these things and have a bad rep for taking photos. I'm trying to get better though.... The 630 now has a Power Commander V and single exhaust, along with a Shorai battery. Dropped 20 pounds right there! Here is the group I led on a 150 mile loop around part of Death Valley. Man, the Safari tank looks so slim on the 630 that it's hard to believe that itis 6.7 gallons! "Back in the day" Hare and Hounds was my favorite kind of competition. These days, no way! It sure was fun though, so enjoy! K
This is my new and most cherished Husky. I told you all I would let you know how my race went and now, with a very heavy heart, I will. It also ties into how I acquired the bike. It belonged to my cousin, very best friend and riding partner, Derek Hoffman. There were rumors in this shallow little town that he had died of a drug overdose and I wrote the first part of this to add to his Facebook page but then it led into what will also be read at his memorial service this weekend. Derek did not do drugs and this was written to set the record straight. "Derek passed away having a heart attack while racing his Husqvarna TE511 dirt bike at Fountain Creek MX Park. I am his cousin and I was there. The track is about 4 miles long and is on natural terrain. We took off together in the same row. I was half way through my second lap and running on a sand bar right off the creek and they had the track blocked off and were leading us around what we thought was an accident. I decided to look back since Derek was on the track too. I saw his bike and ended my race. There were two other riders on the scene and two medics with a Rhino ATV. Derek's bike was laying on top off him in the sand when they found him and the medics said he was holding his chest. They were working very fast and did all they could for him in the field. We loaded Derek onto the back of Rhino and worked our way back to the ambulance in the pits. One medic was driving, the other trying to revive him while we were in motion and I was trying to keep the brush and sticks clear of his head and hold the stretcher still from sliding. It was a very frantic and rough ride...emotions were very high. They put him in the ambulance and called in flight for life, but it was too late. We spent the night before getting our bikes ready until about midnight. Then, the day of the race, he was very excited and showed no signs of anything wrong. We loaded the bikes and went to the race together. The only sign of anything wrong was the week before when we pre ran the track and he felt a little sick when we were heading back home. This was just one of our many adventures together, but unfortunately didn't make it through this one . Derek was the very best of all men. Few will miss him more than I. We played hard together and I always just accepted that I would be with him in the end. Very few people knew he had a heart condition and that's the way he wanted it. The doctors said he would never make it to 21. Derek's only flaw was that he was stubborn. He was going to live his life to the fullest for as long as he could and not let anyone tell him his body was not capable. These were his rules....rules his family respected....rules we accepted many years ago." I later learned that one of the riders at the scene was also on the Rhino in the back left and I never even knew it. I was sitting in the front right and facing to the right holding the stretcher with my right hand and moving brush with my left. This rider was at the scene first and this was also his first race. We spoke with him for the first time yesterday and we are truly grateful this particular man was there. Charlie, Sam (120bluebird), Vika, Big D Motorsport's, CORCS, Gary (the best neighbor in the world), our family thanks you with all our hearts. Jason In memory of Derek Hoffman
Wow Fab, what an experience. Thanks for sharing. While it's a sad story and a hard situation, I'm glad you were with him...doing what he loved most, to the very end. I'd rather be out riding on my last day, with my best friend, than anything else I can imagine. RIP DH, HF
All the family is in town and we had a big dinner. Everyone agrees that it is the best possible way to go out and it is lightening up the situation quite a bit. Plus we had him a lot longer than expected. One thing is for sure....I will continue to race. It was the most awesome thing I have ever done! Derek would want it that way. A lady stands beside the course and takes pics, then puts them on her web site for sale. She made the one of Derek free to all by posting it on Facebook. Thank you Sara!
