I bought a new te450 a couple days ago and it seems to have a hessitation or stumble a little above idle when you try and go through the gears fast. I have put 200 miles on the bike(yeah in two days) and the stumble is so bad it throws you forward until the bike starts accelerating again. I am a husky newbie so does anybody have any ideas on anything I could check? I tried playing with the idle screw but the stumble seems higher than that say about2500-3000 rpm!
zeddy, Welcome to the world of Husky EFI learning, class already in progress. You didn't say weather you had installed the power-up kit or if your running with the stock O2 sensor installed. Either way you need to do some reading on the EFI issues in this section of the forum, this will help you understand some of the more common problems as well as the solution be worked on. I had similar issues as you described when I first got my 08 TE450. My advice before you start making changes would be to get more miles on the engine to loosen it up a bit. The new engines are tight at first and will behave differently than say after 500 miles. Some of the hesitation and engine stalling issues will subside. The other thing that has be mentioned is using gas with an octane of 95. Don't get too frustrated with it, most of us have manage to get the EFI bike to perform well and are looking forward to some improvements from third party companies like Dynojet.
By playing with that mixture screw, you are only making things worse. That screw looks like an idle screw but it isnt. It shouldnt be touched as it messes with the EFi and the TPS.
As Seymore said, get more miles on it then have your dealer reset the EFI on the Ibeat software at the first service. They really do change noticeably after being fully run in. Dave
My 09 TE510 does the same thing. It is most noticable when the engine isnt warmed up all the way. Im a new husky owner as well so I know what you're thinking when the bike does this. (what did I buy?) Just be patient with the break in and keep an open mind. I have just over 200 miles on the bike also. All i have been told is to get 600 miles on the bike with now modifications. Oil changes at 100, 300, 600 miles. Dont rev above 5500rpm. This is to ensure proper breakin. George at uptite said that after that the kit plus pipe plus the tune will make our bikes scream!! He says I dont even know what these bikes are capable of!! Im trying to get my 600 done before riding season but this heat makes it hard to find places to enjoy. Good luck!
I dont know if there is a real "dealer" close to me that may have the hardware required to update the software! Can anyone in BC comment?
Where did you buy the bike? The software and cable are available from Husqvarna. Not cheap, but available. There are dealers in the state of Washington, I cannot find Abby BC Canada on the map so I'm not sure how far away you are. EDIT - is Abby you list in your profile a nickname for Abbotsford British Columbia? Possibly with a postal code V2S 2B5? If so Taskys is about 2 hours south of you. http://www.taskysmetriccycle.com/ and... in the future it would be great to get more details when you ask for help. I just spent 20 minutes trying to figure out the details you could have easily provided.
Sorry Coffee, the last thing I was trying to be was difficult! I have already spoken to Tasky's but I would like to avoid taking the bike out of the country to have work done on it, But if thats what it takes, thats what it takes! The "dealer" I bought it from is a little hole in the wall shop. great guys but I dont think they are an official husky dealer. So I doubt they would have the hardware required to do software updates. I was hoping someone from the Greater Vancouver area would read my post and have info where I could get this checked. It didnt even dawn on me that someone from outside the area|(someone who wouldn't recognize "Abby") would try and help me Again Thanks
No problem Much appreciate you filling in more details on your location too. Seymore & Husky Sport are correct. By all accounts from dealers the ibeat settings will change in the first few hundred miles. If it were me I'd put 400-500 miles on it, then take it to Taskys.
Take it to Tasky's. Top 5 shop. Soak up as much information as you can while you're there. Out of the country? Jeez you're like our cousins....
Before going through too much hassle I would at least put in the electrical connector from the Power-Up kit (or make your own). If you don't already know what I'm talking about, do a search and you'll turn up tons of info on what '08 owners have done to get them to run right. For the vast majority, you just need to install the power-up kit that was optional on '08 bikes. The vast majority run like crap when stock.
Thanks! I took a 2.2k ohm resistor and installed it in place of the o2 sensor, and the problem is gone completely. And way more power. I spent the day reading and following along with the thread reguarding the tps sensor adjustment. that did nothing. I am going to order a power up kit tomorrow, but I don't know if I will get it in time for a trip this weekend. Do you think it will hurt anything running the bike like this? It should be running fat with the restrictive exhaust, it may plug up the cat, but thats getting tossed anyways If anyone is wondering there is four wires going to the o2 sensor, the resistor goes between the green with red wire and the white with brown wire. I still don't understand why the bike was running so poorly stock!
There will be no problem riding it the way it is now. Over time the cat and O2 sensor will be ruined but it would take some time and it wouldn't matter anyway. When stock, the O2 sensor results in the mixture being made much more lean. Too lean to run properly, apparently. I think Husky didn't have time to get it right for '08 and they figured people would install the power up kit anyway.
With the iBeat 2 I have finally settled on a good setting for a seat of the pants test on my 510 but you need the iBeat 2 and probably a dyno to get the optimum settings when she is run in. You need to adjust the 'tickover' screw to acheive a level spark advance then reset all the FB to 100 and set the CO up to erase the hesitation. I settled on CO1 100 2 100 3 90 this stopped the hesitation but after the 12hr enduro this weekend I will take it to a dyno and get it set up properly. Alec
Too bad Taskys wasnt in Bellingham! They seem to be the closest shop to us that really knows their stuff. Riverside cycle in kamloops carries husqvarna as well, and they were helpful for parts.
