Got my Terra back from the dealer finally after the new ECU was sourced and replaced. At the same time they upgraded it from low power version to high power version. WOW what a change that made. I had a box of goodies I'd been collecting waiting for it's return. I finally got the Terra back today. Had a box of farkles waiting to go on... Wolfman tankbag and tailbag MotoOverland sidestand foot. I can't speak highly enough about how great this looks and fits. Husqvarna shield and handguards and aftermarket mirrors Touratech Crossbar (this is the one they market for the R1200GS). An old Tomtom GPS will go here. and an airhawk seat cushion which i haven't photod. (This raises the seat height a tad too much for a 5ft7 shortarse like me but my arse appreciates it) Expecting the B&B bashplate to arrive tomorrow. A pic will follow when that's on.
Yeah, and for the price, they charge you really have to love it !! $AU185 including tax, but it really needed something to push the air off my chest. Its only small but the top has a turned up lip so it's more effective than it appears. The handguards look like they'll do a good job of keeping the cold wind off the knuckles, but it's currently 102F here, so that will need to wait a few months before I can find out.
Any chance you could fill in your location in your profile? I've no idea where you are located, but is it possible you are in Australia? (otherwise several people, including myself, will be confused and ask their dealers for a power up)
This is one of my old street bikes. That little windscreen worked wonders...the faster you went the better it was.
Done, sorry about that. Most Australian states have graduated motorcycle licensing schemes with power:weight restrictions for the first 12 months. The TR650 is available here in both 48hp and 58hp versions with the lower powered model being approved for learner riders. All TR650s being shipped to Australia are low power versions, and then when they are sold the dealers can make the change necessary to convert to 58hp if required.
It'll be a little while. The B+B bashplate turned up today. It consists of 3 pieces, the front mount which replaces the original 2 engine mounting bolts, a rear mount, which replaces the rear engine mounting bolt, and the plate which then is fixed to the two mounts. Fitted the front mount easily, but the rear mount bolt is longer than the original bolt, and requires the rider footpeg mount to be removed to get it in. Those T50 screws holding the footpeg bracket on are on way too tight for the tools I have. It was almost impossible for me to get the bolts undone. After the first sign that I was damaging the head of the torx bolt I stopped trying. I hadn't got very far. The bike goes to the shop for it's 1000km service in a week or so. I'll get them to install the rear mount for me.
On second thoughts.. I went out to a tool shop during my lunch break today and bought a torx socket set. Job was much easier with that. Here are a few pics. The only thing I can see which isn't so great about this plate is in that last pic where that hose is just pushed back a bit from the path it would like to take, and there's a potential there for vibration to cause the plate to cut or wear through the hose I think. I'll wrap the section of hose which might make contact in a few layers of gaffer tape and put add a note to my checks schedule to inspect it's condition every thousand km or so.
Thanks for posting the pics Nev. I'm with you on the hose bit. Easy to work around tho. My B&B is on it's way. Can't wait to get it mounted!
Touratech Crossbar (this is the one they market for the R1200GS). Hi. There are various sizes of crossbars for the R1200GS. What size of crossbar did you get? Thanks!
According to the invoice from a few years ago it is "01-040-0605-0 Cross Bar - 275mm for '08 and newer R1200GS and Adventure" I'm glad to finally get some use for it. 3 years ago my wife and I flew to NY and hired a couple of bikes and did a 3 week road trip to LA. The bike I hired was an R1200GS and I bought the crossbar so I'd have somewhere to mount my GPS. It's been hanging in the garage ever since. The old Tomtom mount I have on it is pretty bulky though, and I have a big chunk of the dash obscured. At the moment it's in front of the warning lights, which is a pain, because I can't see the neutral light or the indicator flasher, and the only fault I find with this bike is the "agricultural" gearbox, so I really need to see that green light, especially as I'm pretty much on tiptoes when I stop and put my foot down. My DL1000 has a 250mm crossbar. I might swap them over and see if that lowers the bar far enough to reveal the dashlights.
Thanks to Huskydude for the idea. The solution was hanging in my garage all along. I cut a 6" section of 3/4" syphon hose and slipped it over the top of the breather hose.
Nev, it doesn't look like you fitted any foam between the bash plate & frame. When the dealer (Trooper Lu's in Sydney) fitted my B&B to my TE630 they inserted a layer of foam to stop crud getting in and to dampen noise. This may be something to consider for the Terra as well. BTW, your bike looks terrific! Regards, Russ
Thanks. The foam is in there. It's black and almost impossible to see in those photos. B&B shipped the plate with foam block included.
I would cut or replace those bolts almost flush with the nut BEFORE you smash your knee or something into it.
Thanks for the concern. I took that photo after slapped it on quickly to check it for fit. I've since turned the bolts around.
