Reminder of how dangerous our favorite hobby can be.... The quad is at the bottom of the cliff in the photo near the puddle. Wife bailed before it fell, THANK GOD! My brother in law said it literally looked like someone pulled her off the quad from behind before it went over. I have a new respect for Suzuki. The quad is an LTZ 250, 2007. It RODE AWAY from the crash with bent handlebars, nerf bars, slightly bent frame, blown out tire, and maybe some steering misalignment. Unbelievable....
Holy Smokes, Glad she had the cat like reflexes to get the hell off the machine. That looks like quite a drop. Is she shaken up? So glad the outcome was good...
Yeah we are both shaken up. As is my bro in law who saw it all happen. I've never had that close of an encounter with death. I would never have forgiven myself, I was literally swinging my leg over the bike to go help her when she started to go through tricky spot on the trail that caused her to lose control. I still wish I had been quicker to jump off the bike...
Wow thank God she got off that thing! Looks like an old quarry or mine. Lots of those here on the other side of PA too.
Haha small world! Trevorton is nuts. Some good stuff to ride out there but I stay clear of the mayhem on the hillclimbs. Sorry, couple foul words at the end. This guy kills hillclimbs but thats about ALL he does. View: http://youtu.be/sRgBjldOhbk
If you're at the dunes and you're facing the pond/lake. Go back and left up the hill. You'll recognize the cliff in the pic if you find the right spot. The pic was taken at an intersection of like 4 trails.
update. All I needed to fix the quad was new tires, handle bars, grips, and plastic fasteners for the plastic (as well as a drill/driver and zip ties ) The frame was bent and the steering was out of alignment, but I bent the frame back to 'close enough' straight with a 8' steel ladder as a lever arm, and I had to adjust the steering using the tie rods since everything was out of alignment due to the bent frame. All things considered - it has a bent frame and scuffed up plastic, but it's rideable.. Not even the rims were bent.... I can't say enough about this quad, it's a tank! I'll be taking it easy for a few test rides before I let her get back on it. Just to make sure there isn't a cracked weld or something that gives way in the middle of a ride.
Glad to hear your wife's okay, a scary situation. Hope it doesn't put her off from continuing the joys of riding.
Yep .. very dangerous to say the least... Who schooled her on jumping off? (I tell every person who gets on my bikes to jump-off and do NOT ride it over the side of the mountain ...)
