So I killed my TE at the NH Classic this weekend :banghead:

It started to make a rattle when lugging the engine - when I was on the gas it was fine. Slowly got worse and then really worse and I shut her down and had to be towed out the woods.

Oil was coming out of the valve cover, out of the external oil line and I just found oil (or it could be gas I guess) by the inlet manifold. Engine turns over but won't start.

I need to get it to a mechanic who knows what they are doing. Anybody have any dealings with Wagners in Worcester ? I bought my bike there but I've never had to go back for any parts/servicing.

Failing that any other reputable mechanics out there in the New England area - I don't mind trucking it somewhere out the way if the guy is good and knows his shit.

I am so depressed about this. I LOVE that bike

    Update here

I took it to Wagner's in the end since I didn't have much choice and I have to say, I'm not super impressed. Service manager just seems intent on selling me a 310 (he mentions the end of the sale on 310's literally every time he opens his mouth) despite me asking repeatedly how much a re-build is going to cost.

They offered me 1K for my bike as it sits (which is complete BS since there's a ton of extras on it - steering damper is brand-freakin' new) plus 1K off a 310 to take it to 6K which surprisingly enough is the same price as a new engine :banghead:

Two guys back east with blown '06 450's at the same time?

I suppose now that there is a large pool of '05-'07 bikes we will start seeing more and more 'blownn motor what do i do' posts.

So with that in mind i will type the following:

Ive blown a couple Husky motors. So have my friends. Its usually the crank, the crank bearing to be exact--it suffers micro-weld adhesion--litteraly swapping metal from the balls to the races, often as a result of heat and oil sludge failing to fully lubricate the bearing. They start making a clanking sound. Then within an hour or two, they go. There are other things that go--5th or 6th gear for desert/tard guys, for example. And of course there is always the odd this or that, valves tulip into the head, or issues related to overheating, etc. etc.. The valves on the '04s are also a well known issue, but from '05 valve issues are more about grit getting thru the carb--the valves and seats themselves on the Huskys post '05 are awesome.

Just some stuff to think about.

If you live near a good Husky dealer--and by good i mean a guy who regularly and for many years has rebuilt motors--then you are in good hands, and you should go there, work with them and have the motor rebuilt, if you want to keep riding your bike. It should cost around $2500 to $3500. Obviously if the pistong went thru the head and shot out into the forest (jjoking) then its gonna cost more.

OK then--what do you do if you live in the middle of nowhere, or just dont have a good Husky dealer near you?

You need to ship your motor to a reputable Husky motor rebuilder.

    How do you do that?

You need to take the motor out of the bike, or pay a local independent guy to take it out. Its easy, should take 4-5 hours. Less if you have done it before.

Then you need to ship your motor. Put it in a box--i use an old Igloo type cooler, put a piece of plywood on the bottom (important). Ship it Greyhound, its about $50 that way.

Here are some guys i would 100% trust to rebuild my motors:
Taskys, Uptite, Bottoms, GP, Barnums Pro, Halls. Three of these guys i have personal expereince, 3 of them its word of mouth from multiple guys i trust.

I am sure there are a few others, but not that many others i would trust.

Just some ideas for you. Feel free to PM if ya need to.

It sucks to have a blown bike, but its also possible to have it up and running in a month or so for around $3k. If you love your bike, its worth doing.

    Hope this helps.
