I'm at 6k miles and the chain is shot. The sprocket looks ok, but I'll order another one just to be sure and have a spare laying around. Has anyone here replaced their chain yet? I know its a 520 but how many links?
Really? Already? I'm at 4,200 and haven't even needed to adjust mine yet, it's been in spec since day 1 and I check it multiple times a month. Although I do frequently apply liberal amounts of PJ Blue label, clean it at least once a month and (sadly) never ride off road. Check the Sticky Thread that has the workshop manual posted there, it's in that manual....I swear I saw the spec early today
Thanks for the reply. I just read its 112 links, I'm looking at ordering the Renthal 520 R3-2 O-Ring Chain with the rivet link for under $90. We'll see how that works. I didn't have a single issue with the chain until one day it started clanking against the frame on some jumps. I adjusted it and went on, then it did it again after 200 miles. Keep in mind I'm incredibly hard on this bike, and I have only serviced the chain once or twice.
I inherited one of those red ones and it is going strong :0) ... My other steel type sprocket is AOK also ...
I just read through the Supersprox site. They have a pretty good deal on sprocket set with chain and a guarantee on the rear sprocket. If you can wear out the rear sprocket they'll send you a new one. Once. And you have to be using one of their sealed type chains. And you have to wait 14 days. And if its not in stock you may have to wait up to 90 days. And you have to fill out a registration card and submit in less than 30 days. That's it. Since I already ordered a chain I'm just going to go with a JT rear and front sprocket and see how it holds up. Maybe I will service it better this time. Maybe.
I'm sure this is posted somewhere but I'm having trouble finding it.I want to go up 3 teeth on the rear and am having trouble finding any specific references to a sprocket for the Terra,so I'm assuming folks are using the BMW650 sprockets. Is there a specific year/model that will work..?
I would think that a chinese chain ( which it is) lasting 6k with that much dirt riding and jumping is better than fine. Renthal anything is good especially chains. I prefer supersprox stealth for the rear though, if you can get the tooth count you want.
...and for an extra $30 they can do custom CNC cut designs for customers. Here is an example of one done with puzzle pieces... I wonder how one with the Husky logo would look...or maybe alternating crown's and H's cut in it? Wish I had photoshop
Wish I had the file for this (complete) graghic... I could totally see using that design where the white portions of the it being chamfered into the sprocket (and the black portions around the H being totally cut out) making it look like the crown and H are floating.
