Hello Just picked up my TR650 from Malcolm Smith Motorsports, They can't help me with the MOSS remap, they don't even have a MOSS to link to BMW. The worlds most famous Husky dealer and the most incompataint Service dept to back it up. I am Riding MAY 4-5 with 5 other 650's cross country from Ridgcrest CALIF to Lone Pine , going to see all the Ghost towns , Mines and old western settlements for 2 days off road, So anybody know a BMW dealer that can help my BMW dealer remap the computer with thier MOSS, my dealer says MOSS is V.I.N. sensitive and ONLINE BMW FACTORY may not allow it to be reflashed with the update, Because it's not recognized as a BMW MOTOR due the vehicle identification number from Husky. I need aTR650 owner out there in the USA who used a good BEEMER DEALER to remap the injection system, need their phone number for wednsday so my dealer can call them. any help would be great, also looking for local adventure riders with TR650's to ride with down south here in Calif. Minigunz
I moved your post to a new thread so you can get the proper attention your question deserves. I know of no one in the USA that has had a MOSS update on a TR650 from a BMW dealer, although at least 1 Canadian BMW dealer stated that they will be able to do that in the future. How is you bike running?
My question is...why is it even necessary? I was under the impression that only the first batch of Terra's had a lean spot off idle. Unless the bike is constantly dying off idle, why not just ride it?
Mine was dying the first hundred miles or so on clutch pull going down hills, happened only 3 times. The ECU seems to be making adjustments on its own and has not given me a lick of trouble in 250+ miles. I recommend riding the your bike at least 600 miles before worrying much about the messing with MOSS.
Same boat as you with Malcolm Smith. Took them a week to do the first oil change on my terra. Asked them to do the MOSS thing and got the run around.
Do you have any combined BMW/Husky dealers within a reasonable drive? I know Fresno is probably not real close for you but BMW of Fresno has the Moss along with techs very used to using it.... I'm not recommending BMW of Fresno, just using them as an example....
Yup...we have the MOSS tool at the dealer here (Fresburg). The guys there are very cool. Once when I had my KLR I needed a valve shim and I knew many of the BMW bikes used the same OD shims. I went by the dealership and asked the service guy at the desk if he had the size (height) I needed and he came back with a handfull (about $50 worth) of different sized shims and handed them to me. I asked what he wanted for them and he said not to worry about it and just do something nice for fellow rider when I get have the oportunity. Very cool.
I had my bike stall out a few times in the first couple hundred miles. Never had it hooked up just kept putting miles on it. Hasn't stalled in a while now and I'm at 1000 miles. Just keep running it and eventually it will sort it self out.
While the tool is the same (Its a computer with cables), the TR maps are online and require Husqvarna specific credentials to access. Good chance a combo BMW/Husky dealer has both. Bills in Salem Oregon has MOSS for the TR.....I find it hard to believe that at least one SoCal dealer doesnt have it (TriCounty?) I would call everyone from Santa Barbara to the border and find out who has one...or maybe Charles at Corona HQ can tell you.
I think Honda Yamaha of Redlands has the tool. That's where I got my bike and their service department is great.
I have a deposit on a Strada in SoCal (Berts Megamall, I have never had anything serviced there). The whole Moss thing has me a bit concerned. There is one combo BMW/Husky dealer I know of in LA area. Its BMW Long Beach. I called up and talked to the service manager. He told me he was familiar with the Moss tool (should be, they use the BMW one daily) and the whole idle issue with the TR650's, and went on to say that they intend to stay a Husky dealer (said they have 70 some Husky's in stock), and that because so many parts interchange with the BMW G650's, that they were very keen on servicing the Strada/Terra bikes. If not Long Beach, there is a power sports dealer in Moorpark who I have not contacted, but they have been one of the largest Husky dealers in the US in the last year or two. I have not called them, but I imagine they know what they are doing also. If I was in a hurry, BMW Long Beach would be my first choice. Incidently, I think it was BMW Long Beach who had the Huskys at the International MC Show back in December. The bike I have on hold has a VIN in the 3600's. Anybody have an idea if it will need the software update?
Again, there should NOT be any concern about this. The consensus is that only the first run saw issues. I got mine back in december, had the issue for a couple hundred miles then it resolved itself. Don't worry.
I stopped at my local Husky shop and saw a Strada on the floor. The last time I was there in late February, they said they weren't ordering any 650's and the Moss Tool was still in the box by the counter, to be shipped back to Husky. I asked if they ended up keeping the tool and they said no. I asked how they intended to do the diagnostic work on the 650's they are selling? They said they made arrangements with the local BMW dealer, to do it for them. They said they were assured it would work on the Huskys. We'll see....
It will work fine if the BMW dealer has the Husky access code (The Husky dealer will have this). We (I work at San Jose BMW/Aprilia) have done this for one of our regular customers and it was all good.
At the risk of asking the obvious question: Have you any input on BMW dealers supporting the TR650s? Was there a memo/email/notice/information sent to your BMW dealership, from BMW, about supporting the TR650s?
I asked my BMW dealer who also happens to be a Husky dealer though they aren't sure they are going to be going forward and they are setup and said it's no problem and that they will be servicing any and all Strada/Terras regardless if they were bought there or not.
