Just got a new-to-me TE610, but the owner shipped the spare tank key to me in a letter envelope and it was shredded in a USPS letter sorter somewhere in the 2000 miles between him and me. I have the key codes that are printed on the original keys, but my dealer literally couldn't find a replacement key blank in the parts book (Littleton, CO), so I don't even know what the part # is...they said I needed the entire gas cap and everything. I'd like to have a spare tank key for when I inevitably lose the only one I have. Is there a good place to get this sort of thing? What do you use the little codes for...my dealer had no idea. Thanks!
You can take the pins out of the lock and then use the ignition key to "unlock" the gas cap. That's what I did. somewhere on here or advrider is a thread that talks about it.
A good locksmith shop...a real one that knows their business...should be able to make a spare key for you. I've used Reed Brothers Security several times before in the past, once or twice for the 610's, and they've always been able to help me.
