I've had my neutral light stay on this past ride. It started right away then after about 25 miles at highway speeds I turned off onto some gravel. From that point I was using 3rd and 4th and it would flash off & on, mostly off. It then stayed off most the way including the highway drive back. I have around 3500 miles on it and never had this happen before. Any advice?
Not sure about those new 650s, but on the other models its usually an indicator of some kind of fault code in the ECU. IBeat will tell you what it is (that is, if iBeat is a thing with the 650s).
The TR650s have a big red warning light on the dash which is used to communicate issues from the ECU to the rider. Sounds to me like the neutral light switch (I'm guessing this is mechanical) has worked itself loose.
The neutral switch is an input (pin F3) into the ECU which then communicates via CAN to the dashboard to activate the light. The wiring diagram shows a pull-up resistor in parallel with the neutral switch.
Not sure where the neutral switch on a Tr is...I do know on a DR650 if your neutral light is intermitint or says on you better pull your clutch cover and check the 2 mounting screws for the internal switch before your engine sucks them in and grenades itself....hopefully the Tr is a better design...worth looking into if you can get your hands on a transmission / engine parts breakdown. Food for thought.
Thanks Chris, That helped locate the sensor wire which I had pinched on my first oil change. After this second oil change I made sure to move the wire out of the way and wala, no more neutral light. BTW, I had pinched it at the top of the sprocket cover.
