I just bought a TE 250. I will pick it up this weekend. Now I need some advice on the bike. First I need some accessories. I heard the pipe can get pretty hot to the rider. I also need a skid plate (northern Virginia is super rocky) and some type of hand guards. The shop that sold me the bike (MFI) offers a discount on parts purchased the day you get the bike. They will give me great deals on the P3 carbon fiber heat shield, boot guard, and skid plate. Any ideas which handguard works best on the bike's stock handlebar? Also, any good ideas on break-in and initial set-up would also be appreciated. Also, besides lack of comfort, would long highway stretches be rough on the bike? I sometimes ride a good distance to my riding areas.
I got a great deal. $4499 with 6.9% financing. The dealer told me Husqvarna is offering $2000 in dealer cash for the 2009 models.

You asked this question before...yes, long stretches of highway on a TE 250 are UNCOMFORTABLE. I did 400 miles in 2 days in Baja on my TE 450 and I could barely hold on at the end. My @$$ was beyond sore and my feel went numb from the buzzing, but then again, I'm a wuss!

Congrats on the new bike. I responded to your post on KLRworld forums. You won't be disappointed. Besides the mid pipe guard, skid plate and bark busters, I'd say the next most important accessory would be some form of radiator protection. For bark busters I have Cycra Pro Bend hand guards on my 2006 TE250. Check out the Motosportz and 7602 racing websites for other cool things you might want to add on later. I had the same concerns as you about road riding. It certainly is less comfortable on the highway than the KLR. I ended up buying a small trailer so I could haul the Husky to more distant riding areas but I still ride it to areas that are about 10-20 km from my place and it handles those rides without difficulty. I bought a 14 tooth counter sprocket to use when riding longer distances but I haven't tried it yet.

I would like to see some of these rocks in Northern VA. You must be heading down I-66.

Taskers gap OHV area and the roads we do the Shenandoah 500 on can be closer to Rip Rap than gravel.
