I'm in the middle of potentially buying a used 2007 sm610. The bike has over 7000 miles. I've been doing some last minute research and have a few concerns. With Husqvarna being bought out by BMW and now KTM and with the bike no longer being made, are parts still readily available? Is there anything in particular to this bike that I should check when I go to pick it up? The seller said he is the second owner and has never been into the engine other than for oil. Meaning that he never checked the cam chain or valves. Should that make me run away? Should I check the ticks on the chain tensioner?

He should have checked the valve clearance, but maybe the previous owner did it. I replaced the cam chain at more than 8,000 miles and the tensioner had 8 clicks exposed, so I still had 2 clicks before the limit.
Here in Italy the parts are available and here there is a law which states that a vehicle can be sold only if the spare parts will be available for at least the next ten years; the 610 ie had been produced until 2008 or 2009. I suppose that in your country there is a similar law.

You should be good for a long while on most parts. KTM finally got their inventory and shipping set up and working with Husky parts.

If the cam chain hasn't fallen apart or stretched past the limit, you should be OK.

Thanks for getting back to me. From other threads I've read it sounds like you are right that I'll be good on the cam chain. If I do buy it, I'll probably order a chain and get that done soon afterwards. That and check the valves too. Seller and I are still a little off on price, but I'll have to check back in if I do end up with the bike.

I was looking at an 07 610SM with 5k miles and a few mods for $5k a couple years ago, then the 630's went on sale at $3K off. What would you have done? :p

If my bike ever needs head work, it's getting a 630 head!

FCR-MX carb with the 630 head, no more cam chain worries... and a little more displacement will be thrown in at the same time.

You would have to get the jug as well to get the displacement, and i'm not 100% sure the stud pattern is the same...

There should be parts around for that bike for a while. I had an 07 and loved it. For some dumb reason I thought I needed a sportbike again so I got rid of it.
One thing that has to be filed in the circular bin is the gas cap. That nice billet adapter with a regular cap is the dog's bollocks.
