Love seeing all this new helmet tech. While they're coming out with their own version it makes you wonder which option is best. Check out Leatt helmets and 6d. http://vurbmoto.com/videos/bell-helmets-introduces-moto-9-flex/23424/
Really like the progression companies come up with, a shame they cant get together ignore profits and accelerate the progression of the saftey levels of the lids. Seeing as it literally could be life and wheelchair. I know it will never happen but i would love to see the day it does.
I really doubt that would progress technology faster than companies competing trying to one up each other. When competition and incentive to better something are removed, so is motivation and then complacency sets in. I think I get what you're saying but like you say it's unlikely. Helmet looks great, figures I just bought a new shoei vfx-w to replace my 4 year old helmet. Too many tree limbs whacked my last one...
JP i was thinking the same thing until i read rev's post. They could raise the certification standards to test for this
Well nice they have an adaptive fit as all my old Bells never really fit me like a Shoei or Arai due to my oval skull. Might have to try one on.
Yeh i get what revilles saying but i cant help but wonder if the r&d guys were all in the same room that they would come up with ideas quicker bouncing off competitors than just the same in house guys. But competition is the driving force as stated.. I personally think saftey should be the reason atleast for helmets have the lid market subsidised by govenmemt list prices at cost of development materials + 20% profit.. Make it apply across the board. Yup i may sound drunk but it make sence in my mind.
I swear my 6d has saved me from more than one head trauma. Helmet tech has been sitting still too long.
Truth is, if we got the government involved, their solution will be to ban motorcycle riding in the name of improving safety. We can't be trusted for ourselves so they should step in and save us...lol.(that was sarcasm) Doesn't the government set the current safety standards?
Looks a little interesting on the way they seem to imply the helmet will fit each hat-rack differently and correctly .. This is the second time I think I've read about that rotational impacts are considered in this testing ..Might be something to it ... It's my head, I'll be responsible for it. Starting first with my riding, ESP the speeds I go. Next, I'll put a helmet on and continue with my responsibility towards my head ... As far as being governed, true, most of us do not have the ability or discipline to just do the right thing each day or night, so we have to be governed, maybe even locked away from society ... Babies might be put in playpens till they act better ... Adults are locked away & plenty of $ is spend on this unruly person ... Either the gov deals with them or who will? I will, but only on a case by case basis... I'll make the call on the responsible thing for me and mine. Polyolefin, polystyrene, and polypropylene are the compounds mentioned in the video... Three materials closely locked at the hip and fill a wide range of needs.. -- I need a lighter helmet ..not sure what it will be but I've upped my funds limit to the ~$300 range....Ride safe out there... Many of us quit riding due to crashes... You do not want to be included in this stat.
Helmets have gotten worse for low speed impacts as of the last few years. I have gotten my bell rung in very minor (seemingly) get-offs, while wearing some high end, Snell approved lids. I realize that part of it might be because I am not young anymore, but I think that part of it is because the helmets have been lacking in low impact protection lately. I was glad to see manufacturers like 6D and Kali step up to the plate with new low speed impact protection designs added in as features. I wanted to buy a 6D, but the price was too steep. I ended up with a Suomy, the LIGHTEST HELMET on the market. Mine weighs in at 2.1 pounds! The rep claimed that the liner was designed to have crumple zones in low speed impacts. Luckily I haven't had to test the helmet's impact efficiency yet.

I have never wore any other helmet in all my riding days but a BELL I remember my first Bell Moto back around 1968 Last few years it has been a Motorcycle Superstore Team Bell Moto 9 Cant wait to get the new Flex Moto 9
i just need to get a new helmet, period...ive had mine for 10 years! is that bad? i still manage to thunk it pretty good once or twice on every ride off some tree branch somewhere..the liner has been washed about 4 too many times. poor hjc...i think this is from 2004, 2005? man, it might be older than 10...not sure what to get before spring but i may just stick with hjc since this once has served well..
2 years is what I do then replace it, or after a bad crash with direct impact. It's expensive but I can't replace my brain. 2 years of woods and it's banged up pretty bad already. The helmet...lol
I already have mine on order With the Motorcycle Superstore Team colors Will post as soon as it arrives
Buy the best helmet you can afford. Period I had a pretty good get off that trashed my 6D. I got knocked out but didn't have a concussion. The neck brace I was wearing also bruised my chest around the collar.
