    Hello everyone,

New guy here, looks like a great forum with some great people. My name is John and I live in Austin, TX. Don't see many Huskies here but I know there has to be a few out there somewhere.

I could use a little help/advice from y'all; I'm very close to buying a Husky but am torn on which one to buy. I currently have an Aprilia Dorsoduro and love it but my teenage son rides a DRZ 400 SM and really wants Dad to poke around the city(think a little bit of Hooliganism here) with him and the Ape just really isn't made for that, so, I pretty much have my heart set on the SMR 510 but I am torn between either an 09 or 2010, can't figure out which. I was really eyeballing the 610 for a while but would prefer something light and easy to toss around as I come from a heavy motocross background though I have also ridden street bikes for many years.

I know kind of long winded, sorry about that, but, if any of you can tell me what you think about the SM510, 610/630 and 09 vs 2010 I sure would appreciate it. I'm looking for any type of info and/or thoughts you may have as I'm really torn and not sure what to do. Anything on your mind; mileage or lack thereof, reliability, etc etc........

    THANK YOU!!

    SIncerely,
    John

Well all of the models you are considering are vastly superior to the DRZ. the SM 450 and 510 are both amazing bikes, have only had short rides on both but wow. Cant make a call on the 630 other than the reports are very good in the mags over here. You can't go wrong with any IMHO. The deciding aspect may well be price/value of the 09's v/s the 10's

    howdy, another john here,

my 510 burns holes in all my pants, the low gas light dont work, the rear tire was to the steel belt in less than 1000 miles, and did i mention u feel like your going to burst into flames sitting in traffic, but i love it

    ghte,

Yeah I know the Huskies are far superior to the DRZ but the DRZ is my teenage sons bike, that boy doesn't need anything faster right now-but Dad does!! ;)

    Joho,
Hmm, what year is your bike? The 2010 is "supposed" to have better cooling and that's one reason it's appealing to me. I live in Texas; hotter than hell!! Thanks for the info.

Ha ha, think Houston was bad then you should see it now! Everytime I am forced to drive to Houston I've usually been flipped off at least 2-3 times before I even reach the city limits, people seem so pissed off there. So glad I am in Austin now, though it is growing rapidly and getting it's fair share of twat copters that's for sure!

    Have a good weekend!

Edited to add: Went ahead and decided to get the 2010, figured I'd probably be whining about not getting it later so just popped for it now.

Have you read up on supermotojunkie.com? There's a great Husky forum there.

There weren't many changes made from 2009 to 2010 as far as I know, and not too many 2010 owners. I'm talking SM versions, not TE.

I went back and forth on the 450 vs 510 vs 610 issue for a long time and settled on a SM610 before finding a good deal on a new '08 510. I've sat on a 610 but never ridden one. In general my advice is for street use, get a 610. For track use, get a 450. For mixed street/track, 510 vs 610 is a tough call.

In my case I don't really mind the downsides of the 450/510 so I am very glad that I got it. Downsides are very short range due to small tank, hard seat, high vibration, close ratio transmission, higher maintenance, shorter engine life. Downsides of the 610 are bad cam chain tensioner life, lesser fork, hard seat and higher weight. It's a better street bike in almost every way. If you would bitch about the 510's downsides, get the 610. If you want an MX bike for the street, get the 510.

Edit--Congrats on your new 2010 purchase! You'll have a ball on that thing.

Get the 450. That way when you smoke him there's no displacement arguments
