true, YZ250 gets you the most bang for your buck for sure!! and SSS forks rule. You can take that bike in any direction and be successful.
Agreed. Unfourtunalty I had the 05 yz250 and never got to try a newer yz but I liked mine. However with in the first day of riding my husky I felt as if I could go just as fast on the husky as I could my yz. The yz deffinatley has it all over the husky in the motor depertment, but the husky out handles it in pretty much everything. I don't think I could go back to a yz after riding my 310 unless it was setup really well ,kind of like Jason Raines bike (that's a good bike right there).
While I agree that the YZ's are very nice right now, I believe the new Husky engines, especially the 500 will make the yz's look tame.
Want different...get a YZ250 it even has the older non up to date plastics...you'll be way different...how do I know?? I bought a 2013
I was surprised in my local Hare Scrambles Series, that when Honda and Kawasaki did away with 2 strokes, that the Yamaha YZ250 didn't become the bike of choice.... but it didn't. There are a few being raced, but most riders switched to Honda and Kawi 250F's and when that didn't work out too well.... they went to KTM 2 strokes, even when they didn't have linkage yet.
You guys will like the Beta 300RR Race, its more agile, smooth, and revs out better without the vibes of the KTMs and GGs I've been on and owned. Nothing very exotic, some different stuff like the push button seat and estart(flawlwess) but totally sound. Easy to ride and own, does everything quite well. After years on GasGas I tired of all the poor quality BS and took a shot with this bike. So far it has been an excellent move.
YZ250 2Ts are very popular in Ontario. My Yamaha dealer buddy sells 15-20 of them every year. They are rock solid bikes and can be bought for min $1500 less than a 250XC. Young guys can buy a new YZ250 or a year old KTM for the same money.
I bought my 310 for $7500 and in 3 months it was worth $3500. BMW should be embarrassed to say the least.
I asked George if the Beta 2-stroke engines were being tweaked and he said they were (to the best of his knowledge) being raced stock......with that nice adjustable power valve. Chassis tweaks yes.
Not really a lot to do to a modern 2 stroke. Pretty optimized stock. Add a pipe to change where the power is if you like but the days of modding a 250/300 2 stroke are kinda gone as most make more power than we can use as is.
@MikeRotella your bike is worth more than that. I just asked a dealer about trade in value and they said they'd give me $4,800 for my bike and mine is a 2012 and that's "trade in value" not even retail value.
I traded my 2010 TE310 last May. They gave me 4,500. I live in San Antonio..If I was trying to do that in CA I would'nt have gotten that kind of money.
back on topic..2014 WHT Huskys... anyone have their dealer give them a ballpark number yet? same as 300xc, more than 300xc, less than 300xc? (I have 3 price invoices for the 2014 model year OTD for both 300RRs and for a 300XC) H bergs were a a little more than their Kato bros so prob the @ same % more for the new wht bikes I am still assuming. PS after all my updates and bullet proofing Tinken is encouraging me to stay with my 2013 TXC310R now......so I will see if I go new sooner or later.
I think the Tecate HS, may help you with that decision..... Apples and oranges though... if you were thinking FE350 4T, I'd say stay 310. I still think switching to a 300 2T, will make you happier no matter what the brand.
