250-500cc New mule kicking in the stall... 12 WR300

Hey guys!

I just pulled the trigger on a 2012 WR300. Nice bike that looks like a quality piece. I've got a couple of questions about pegs and brake pedals. The pegs seem too high to me as a 6'0" rider. I might end up with a taller seat down the line but the pegs just seemed high to me. Any suggestions on lowered pegs. I seem a little cramped up on the tank, but not as bad pushed back to mid seat.

I adjusted the bar controls pretty much first shot out of the gate, but kind of struggling on brake and shifter locations. Need more testing I guess. I've always been an low toe rear brake dragger so that high rear brake peddle is a little concerning.

Here's the short bio. I've raced Int classes Cross country in both TCCRA And TORO. Also a B rider in enduros in the TSCEC.

Just did a brief break in ride a local spot where I had to by a Texas Offroad Program sticker. I don't mind supporting my right to ride BUT I sure didn't like putting a big 13 (for 2013) TOP sticker on my brand spankin' new fork tube.

Cut and flip the stock pegs, works great for my size 15's. Helps with positioning too.

You know. I did that when I got the bike. It made me feel like I was riding on my heels. Then I found I actually was doing just that.

giantjoes peg tips a winner. lankydoug has the answer for your shifter drama. as for rear brake pedal adjust the round cam thinga-ma-jig to move lever down. personally i took rear brake pedal off, heated up & bent it out straight. find it makes for a fractionally longer lever & i much prefer the position-not pidgeon toe'n to get at it(scratches shit outa ignition cover too from boots!). stock i found it was an awkward lever really. run a brake snake too. great tall blokes bike(6'4"). shizenload of set-up tips & aftermarket gear on here for the 250/300, do a search. nice work mate, giv it hell!

Hey guys and gals,

Checking in on the wr300 at the six month mark. I've been enjoying the Wr300. So far here's the short list of problems, mods and adjustments.

My main problem is the seat. It keeps loosening up. Fell off on the last ride. I like the idea of the szus pin, but I'm not liking the execution. Got to do something since its not staying secured.

The rear brake seems a little grabby and kind of hard to find and apply smoothly. Front brake is excellent.

After setting the sag, the front end started to track better and turning seems better overall. The rear seems to need a little more plushness, gets a little stiff on rock hits. The front suspension was a little dive-y at first but a couple of clicks on the rebound and compression seem to solve those issues. Front feels good to me.

I've got my starting issues pretty much solved with a combination of jetting (45 pilot - 1 7/8 pilot screw - clip one from the top - 420 main), technique, and the engine getting broken in. Low end power feels pretty good with no bogging or weakness. But I'm having a problem with high fuel consumption, splooge on the silencer, and smoking. Still need to dial in the main circuit. The bikes power seems great to me, but maybe being back on a two stroke is half the battle. Anyone know of a good float bowl adjustment you tube video.

Kind of wish I had a 6th gear, but the spread feels about perfect till I get to the lack of 6th gear.

Did a killer ride up in near the Texas/Oklahoma border this weekend at Red River motocycle park. We did 30+ miles in Bill's woods (enduro A/B loop) and the big hill trails next to the river. This ranch hosted a Red Bull Last Man Standing event a couple of years back. The dirt was perfect with just a couple of mud holes here and there.
