    Hello all!

I'm the proud new owner of a 1999 WR250 2 stroke bike. I was able to pick it up for $1,000.00. She runs ok and is in decent shape...pics to come. She came with a few extras: extra new chain, extra piston, extra clutch, and sprockets!

I bought the owners manual on eBay, but I'm looking for a repair manual like Clymer or Haynes....im having a Hard time locating one....any suggestions or help?

While I'm at it, are there any NEED TO KNOWS about this bike? What are people's thoughts on this year? Did I get a decent price on the bike?

Looking forward to joining the community. This is the first real dirt bike I've owned...I have been on a 2002 Yamaha TW200 4 stroke for the past year. This WR250 2stroke is a whole different beast!

Hope to learn a lot from y'all!

    Hello MKR,

Your best bet as far as manuals goes is to contact Halls Cycles. They can sell you a CD Rom with a shop manual and parts manual on it. You can also view the parts manual on their website. Where are you from by the way?

Very good reliable 6 speed bike. A good deal too.
Won a big box of trophies on mine. Make sure it has grease in all pivot/shock points- I added the grease nipple to my lower shock pivot, and ziptied a rubber spash guard on the front of the bottom rear shock pivot. Grease the nipples every ride and it will last years.

pretty sure I just downloaded a workshop manual from the net for free, I have a 2002 wr250 nice light weight bike with plenty of go for a 250, Parts seam to be very expensive and hard to get but bike is a good, comes with all the good suspension and brake gear standard.

B and B bash plate is a good start for aftermarket bits

Thanks for the replies guys! I'm up in the southern Maine. I play to do most of the work on this bike myself. Are newer model plastics compatible with the 99 year?

The 99 is a slightly different bike than the current 2002-2012 bikes.

As already mentioned it has s 6 speed WR gearbox...a big plus.

The wheel hubs rotors and axles are different as is the clutch basket. The frame is a little different so the pipes mount differently too. Plastic and seat is different too. swingarm slightly different.

Other than that is is basically the same as a 2012.

BTW, I have a spare front hub for that bike

Thanks for the above responses... I really like the look of the newer bikes...can I just get a new plastic set for say a 2012/2011 as well as a new tank and seat and put them on my 1999?

From what I gather on this site, it can be done?

    Thanks!

The frames and sub frames have changed since then and some metal fab would be required to get a newer tank, seat and plastic to fit. Enjoy what you have!

I also have a 1999 WR250 - parts availability seems ok aside from the plastics. Most of them are NLA and since they were only used from 1997 - 1999 there is no aftermarket availability. If you end up fabbing parts to convert to the newer stuff, let me know as I'll probably be in the market for your old pieces. The factory owner's manual covers most of the service and I was fortunate enough to get one with my bike.

I'm not really a racer... Just a trail rider so I added some decals to the front number plate....trying to decide if I want to keep the bottom of the logo circle on or off....what do you guys think? Or should I just leave the number plate all black?

Thanks...I'm just getting into this and love it. I use to DH mountain bike so I'm familiar with a lot of bike components...starting the learn about the engine. Took off my exhaust today...gonna paint it and reinstall. Any feedback on the number plate ...I think it's too busy with the bottom part of the logo circle on...I may remove it an keep the logo just above "Husqvarna"...... Thoughts?

Will also be adding some hand guards... Black, yellow, or white....looking for your thoughts on color selection. Leaning towards white or yellow.
