125-200cc New project Bike 02 cr 250

Bought this from a member here and thought I would get some opinions from you guys.
It is a 02 Ferracci cr 250 , its a roller right now and I did not buy the motor from him because its in pieces and needs a ignition , clutch basket, and to replace a crank cheek weight.

I am starting to think maybe I should have bought the motor also, he still has it so I can go back and get it. It has a re nikasiled cylinder and brand new piston and ring that has never been installed.

Could I put a wr ignition in it to run some lights?

Also is there a big difference in the transmission gearing between a wr and cr ?

The transmission should be the same. Switching ignitions can be expensive unless you find someone selling a used set.

Ok , cool . The p.o. already sold the ignition so I will need one any ways . Are there many engines out there for sale that I could use for this year ? I am ok with changing if need be or do I just go back and purchase the motor he has and try to get it running ?

Wr ignition should work up to 2004 ish shame you dont have the cr i would of done a straight swap and ran my light off lipo's

Were the 250's good motors to rebuild and plan on keeping to ride for long term?

Does any one know much about this Ferracci bike ? could any one just buy one of these from the dealer ?

Steve Lamson rode for Fast BY Ferracci back then. it might be one of his. I read a story about when he rode for them. he said it was his worst season ever racing motorcycles. the team was awesome to work with, but he struggled to go fast on it and it absolutely would not stay together in supercross.

I don't race , mostly trail stuff thats why I would like to put light kit on it one day ?
Wonder how I could find out if it was one of their race bikes ?
could you buy these off the show room ?

i dont know about the ferracci stuff, but the chassis and motor is great on that bike...the engine design is basically the same from early nineties 250/360 up to the last italian 250/300. there were changes but not a ton. very stout design so to answer your question, yes, when built new it will hold up very very well..the transmissions all swap from 91 to 13, 5 and 6 speed, 250/300/360....

So would another 250 bolt in its place or should I go back and try and get the original motor and try and piece it back together?

both, i would try to get the original one for at least parts if the price is right. transmission, etc. you know how to split cases and such so thats a no-brainer! but yes, any 250 (or 360!) will bolt in, from the early 90s to the last italians, with possible airboot mods or the like.

The true WR transmission is a wide ratio 5-speed from the 99-03 WR250, different from the cr250 and 04+ WR250/300.
I have a 99 WR250 engine in my 360 and even w/ out the supermoto stuff on will cruise at 60-70 no problem. Factory rates the stator at 110w which is plenty for some nice bright lights.

Nice, I thought the WR trans should be wider too.

Your bike doesn't have the Factory front end and DID "U" shaped wheels, that the FBF bike had, but people change stuff. Every bit of the "Works" stuff, was availible from FBF. They would even build it for you, if you wanted to spend the money. They weren't available from all dealers, already built. I still have my FBF Husky parts catalog, from '01.

Friend has an ex Lamson bike, but a lot of the bits are gone. Another friend bought it first, from Ferracci and all the titanium race parts were taken off. It still had the billet clamps and Marzocchi Factory 50mm forks, FBF twin map ignition and the FBF motor. It's the stoutest Italian Husky 250 you will ever ride. It doesn't even sound like a regular CR/WR250!

My friend sold off the forks/clamps and the dual map ignition died, so he put a WR ignition on. He did it up all red and white, around '09..... Still a cool bike!

Are those the stock triple clamps? Brakes, hubs, axles and wheels don't look stock either. Same carb? I nailed mine to the side of the barn
Would be sweet with a real WR250 motor in it or a WR360

I've seen the real deal and those clamps look stock, wheels and such aren't stock, but not what the FBF bikes ran.
