After some research, I decided I wanted Terra as a more dirt-worthy adventure mount. I missed out on buying the last available one in Texas (or anywhere remotely close to me for that matter) a couple of months ago. So I started hunting for Plan B - a Suzuki DR650SE - on craigslist when I came across a 2014 TR650 Terra with 213 miles on it being sold by a nice gent who ordered it from a dealer in Tuscon sight-unseen only to decide not long after that it just wasn't for him. It looks like it just rolled out of the showroom. I guess it did! So $4900 later, I am in business. Even has a few nice bits included: centerstand, Husky taller screen, throttle lock cruise and a plug to remedy some fuel injection issues. Due to many 75mph two lanes around these parts and an obnoxious amount of superslab that needs traversing to get anywhere, I am thinking a steering damper may be my first farkle. Glad to be a part of the family. This forum seems to be a great resource!
Welcome gullywasher, you are correct this forum is a nice place where Husky fans can share info, modifications and most of all also pictures of your adventures. Lucky in here is a very friendly atmosphere also towards other brands and I wish you nice and save miles on your Terra. Regards, John P.S. you live in the State where Kevin Schwantz comes from, a fantastic rider in the 500 CC moto Grand Prix. I really like his driving style and his attitude towards racing. P.S. 2 and also I am a great fan of Ron Paul even I have never been in the States.
Hey Gullywasher, Welcome to the fold. Make sure you check out these two threads on ADV: Thread index with many "how to's" http://advrider.com/forums/showpost.php?p=24352468&postcount=4293 OEM/Interchangeable Parts index http://www.advrider.com/forums/showpost.php?p=24330343&postcount=4253 Both of these will help you avoid the steep learning curve that the rest of us went through. There are several things you should be doing right away to the TR. 1. Airbox/Filter modification. Do it, don't doubt it. Just do it and do it quickly. "How to" in the thread index and there are two options. 2. Do a fenderectomy on the rear fender or risk breaking it (long lead times on replacements). "How to" is in the thread index 3. Burp the cooling system to get rid if air. Lots of info here on CH 4. Change rear rack if it hasn't been done already. It's prone to breaking. If you use it as is load it lightly or it will break
drzcharlie, I certainly appreciate the links and the hit list of must-do's. I'll read up on those issues and get to it right away.
Here's an old tidbit for newbies that has been mostly forgotten: http://www.cafehusky.com/threads/clutch-cable-rubbing.33935/
Welcome Gullywasher. Sounds like you got a good deal there. I've had my Terra almost 2 years. Still loving every minute I spend riding it. I wish I could nominate some great GP riders who have come from the same state/city as me, but unfortunately, all of the successful GP riders from Australia have come from distant places, but I do know the parents of the Alex & Damien Cudlin, both of whom have had some wildcard Moto2/MotoGP rides.
