Im looking to buy a new 2010 husky left over. I'm new to riding dirt bikes. I raced quads for 15 years and want to go with a dirt bike now. What should I get a te250, te310, or a te450. Im really steering towards the te310. I think the 450 maybe to much for me to handle. Can somebody tell me their opinion please. I woods ride. Thanks

Chuck do you need a street legal bike?

I thought about it. I think i might go for the 2011 te 310. I could get a great deal on the 2010 te 310 but the 2011 is so much better with the new changes. I'm also looking at a husaberg fe390 a little pricey though and a KTM 400w. I want something good because I'll have it for a long time.

I'd go for 450 if it were me. I picked up a 510 last year an no regrets. Only complaint is it just a wee bit tall as I'm only 5'10" and have a 30" inseam. It isn't that heavy (I'm sure the 310 to 510 weight difference is on the order of 20 pounds ors) and sure is nice to have the extra power when I want to tractor up a hill or go 60+ mph on the road between trails etc,...
I did eyeball a berg for a while, they sure are pretty, I just couldn't convince myself the sticker price was worth it.

Thanks for the reply squidman. I was debating about a 450 for the extra power for the hills and main roads. I'm so undecided. I'm completely new to riding dirt bikes. I just don't want to get something that's to much for me to handle. How do you like your Husky? Are you very happy with it? They look bad ass!

Over all, I love my bike. I had a few issues when I first got it (i.e. few loose bolts and a rad hose came off while I was ridding). I'd go over ever nut, screw and bolt before the first ride, just to make sure everything was clamped down during assembly. Otherwise its great, not a single problem and quite a bit of fun. As far as wondering about it being to much to handle, I wouldn't be worried. If you've been racing quads you know better then me how to handle a bike. Besides, the TE's come some what hung like a field mouse from the factory. Between the cat converter, O2 sensor, air filter frame, street mapping of the efi, and the throttle limitor, its pretty gummed up and piggish. If you are wanting to transition slowly you can take your time and get a feel before you give it its full power by taking that stuff off. I pulled the cat, O2 sensory, plugged in the race map and open air frame from day one. I left the limitor in place until 650 miles so the engine would get a good break-in but not damaged.

When I got mine, I hadn't been on dirt in 15 years, but hey, its just like ridding a bike right?. I had a bunch of slow days. Now I have medium days with a few dumps here and there to keep me on my toes. You'll be fine, just don't go hill climbing or pin the throttle on the first ride.

Any of those Huskies would be good. You would just have to pace yourself with the 450. The 310 would be MY choice . 2011 if I had a choice.

The 2011 TE310 will definitely be a great selling model for sure. Lighter, faster, more fun than the 2010 TE310. But there is not much history regarding the 2011 te310 yet. Earlier models have been shown to be extremely reliable for many miles. I am not sure the other 2 models have a license plate, which may or may not be important to you.

(I've been using my bike around town a lot more cause gas is getting a bit pricey these days)

The cool part of these new 4t machines is the ease of riding ... almost anyone can get on one of these 250, 300 4t machines and ride them ..They will go slow as easy as go fast ... They feel like a fast street bike, light and with a off-road suspension ... the 450s are a little different as just a slight twist (~1/8) of a throttle turn and you'll get plenty .. myself, I just don't want to ride with that much throttle control or the extra weight... but many many like the extra power as it is definitely more than the 250s ...

All these bikes are limited on top-end speed and will need to be geared up for ~60MPH cruising ... there is 449 new Husky many like but it is a little pricey ... same as the bergs

UR best bet is to sit on one and ride it ... :) ... good luck ..

Hey Chuck what kind of trails do you ride or what area of the country, whats your size? If your in an open desert type area get the 450. If your planning to ride tighter stuff the 310 would be great. I am 6'2 205lbs (trying to get to 195) ride tight and some ATV trails on a TE 450 '07. I will never fully use the bikes abilities. I did want plates and the 310 was not around back then or I might have bought that. I can say the 450 has very controlable power. I added two teeth to the rear and it can chug along and snaps when I need it. I only connect on roads so I did not need top speeds.
