I'm doing round 2 with a new to me wr144. This time it gets fork springs. I flushed the forks and put in 5wt Maxima @ 140mm from top and torque to 14 top and 10 bottom. I did the same on the wr300 and works well, no binding, smooth action. Once the bolts are torqued I mark them, so I can see at a glance if they loosen. Also, front axle was in a bind when I got it. So far I set to the 1st line down on the forks which is @ 8mm.
Also, check the manifold, rubber boot and carb clamps, linkage, shock and swingarm bearings too. Sounds like you got a nice one, mine needs lots of tlc

Not blue plated....;) had one of those and did enjoy the freedom of riding without limits posed by ashpalt but....needed to make a committment. YES to MINI PINE!!! The older TE 450 was fun but i'm sensing THIS one...will be juuust the ticket for trail and some light MOTO!!

Good to know re: torque values...I'll go on the lower side as well. The suspension set up on this HAD to be set up for moto. Not used to such high compression. Not much I can do when it's -14 and snowy out to tweak it heheheheh. I went through all the bolts and they are MATCHED...no "new ones" put in until replaced with original 8 heads. Did find one stripped subframe hex bolt that I'll try and remove with the torx trick. Yeah...will also check the front end for binding and set the pinch bolts up to align properly to eliminate that aspect. Two lines exposed on forks...will wait until I get to play before adjusting. Did note the rubber boot between carb and cylinder head is beginning to wear out..will replace. Bearings...a given...will check and swap out. I did like my Zerks fittings on the TE, but this is seasonal maintenance anyways.

Previous 2 owners never registered this rig...long story short and one affidavit later....got the GREEN PLATE!!! Insurance quoted at $76/year vs the $800 PLUS for blueplated TE is also nice. This is the year of Mini-pine, Strickland XC, and reconnect with some good old school moto locally and around Ottawa. Shaping up for a good season...

Will post pics sometime this week of the new ride.

I wasn't fond of the Strickland xc. Rocky and slick. I was in the ride smart mode to protect my points lead. There are lots of great events on the schedule this year.

If you rode it in this weather, it's going to have stiff compression, but I also did find the forks a little harsh.

It IS rocky and rooty..we have a family cottage on the same lake as Trevor Stricklands property...literally 3 k from cottage door to his trails...I rode a few laps with him and quickly determined the TE 450 was NOT the bike to enjoy these kinds of events. Mad props to you guys linking up 5 or more of those laps...I was bagged after 2!! Before preriding, my plan was to enter.....this year its for sure. I mt. Bike over and did catch the morning group....was the guy parked in corner deep in woods snapping som e pics heheheh.

Hope you dont mind me leaning on ya for advice re tires oil etc......I see from your results youve got things dialed in!

No problem. Yeah, the bike is dialled in. I really should have done the piston at the start of the season but I just rode it. Next year I'll be on a 08 cr165. They moved me up to A so its going to be a good season of racing.

Forget the engine ice, these things don't run hot. If you lose coolant on the trail, what do you do? I run rotella with an auto clutch. Prior to the auto clutch. Canadian tire atf. If you use something reasonably priced, you aren't afraid to change it often.

HA...wish I saw your post before I went out and bought some more Engine Ice and Belray gear oil hehehehe...The engine ice IS a pretty blue heheheh...next time.

Here's a question....bought a few other goodies to keep me wrenching for the next week. Realized the core is not removable from the stock exhaust...so exchange wrap with packing.....am I able to run mini pine and other events with this stocker exhaust or......?
