Hi folks, Okay firstly my apologies for such a dumb question but the Terra is my first bike (and I'm new to biking in general) so I'd appreciate a quick opinion on this simple matter just so I can confront my garage with confidence! I had some work done on the bike and asked for a service at the same time as I believed it would be convenient. However I've issue with some of the work they did which has caused my clutch cable to become torn against the radiator the way they routed it so I thought I'd check to see what else they did or didn't do... First thing I did was pulled my filter cover and found this, no grease around it and the filter looks like this: Question is... did they replace it? I think not... I've ridden the bike maybe 10 times top since their "service" and definitely no more than 200 miles or so all in relatively clean (always dry so far) conditions. Bike has about 8,400 miles on it and I'm guessing this is the original filter but I have 0 experience and 0 filters to compare to. Thank you!
Definitely the original Air Filter and as indicated from manufacture date 18-09-12. Get yourself a K&N BM-6507 which is washable or a HiFlo 7602 if you only want a Paper replacement. Confront the dealer and if necessary vote with your feet.
NOTHING quick about the airfilter of the TR (groan)....just do your own search+read here as well as on ADVrider http://advrider.com/index.php?threads/husky-tr650-new-owners-stupid-questions-thread.850525/ It's a real issue. Plenty of opinions, too. That item has nothing to do with your service/ bike shop...it's a legacy of the Husky-factory One of the maaaany items on the list... Have a good read around. No it is not common in general, but due to the stock airbox design it has been a common thing to do on our bikes to mitigate the poor sealing. Being uncommon in general I would not expect a shop to do it unless requested, though clearly THAT filter was not recently replaced.
Cheers! Went and ordered the HiFlo one for now... Looking through those links and then some more, the 3D printed option seems to appeal the most for whatever reason as a permanent fix. As far as the recall mentioned there strangely doesn't seem to be much word of it in the UK, at least I haven't received or found anything about it. I may just have to give one of the bigger dealers a buzz and see what they know. Thanks again
It's common enough in the 4wd world when fine dust is expected. Many panel filters don't form a good enough fit without it.
Down Under if you're not the original owner you may well not be on the mail list. So yeah, head for a dealer.
My understanding of the situation was that the original importer PFG did not register the bike ownership information correctly with Husqvarna at the time of sale and that Husqvarna had no record of any Australian ownerships and therefore no recall letters had been sent to any Australian owners.
