I have been on a mission to sell a bunch of stuff and doing well. But I have also been passively searching for a 2000-04 CR250. Just like those bikes. Wanted an inexpensive project bike. Well this one has been on a local CL for a long time. I keep telling him it is not worth $1500. So today the seller needed money for a truck project and we struck a great deal (for me) on the phone and I made the 2 hours one way drive in hopes it is OK like he said it was. Some brilliant cap decided painting the plastic with truck liner was a good idea. Luckily I have a full set of plastic off my 04 CR125 so I;m good there. The rest of the bike is generally in good condition, bike runs well and pulls hard across a field by his house. Anyway I'm glad I snagged a 02, I always felt that was a real good year for these. Let the fun begin.

Nice score! Bill F likes 02s too.
The steering head angle changed after that I think?
The wheel bearings last much longer because of the smaller OD axles.
I would have been interested in a WR for the WR 5 speed transmission though.
    Looks like fun.:)

Finally! A proper home for the that Husky.  New plastics would have helped him sell. $100 investment but you already had a set.

At least they scraped off the Metal Mulisha stickers. Yo dude! Vin Diesel rides a Husky! Nice find! Crate that motor up and send it to Eraldo Ferracci... You'll be amazed!

I have worked on two sets of 02 wheels that had the small axles so I thought they were all that way. ??

They were probably 2001s, by 2002 all of the dirt models had switched.

Thanks for that, I was going to post a correction after spending some time on Halls Parts catalog. It appears the CRs changed in 01 and like you say the WR followed suit in 02.

I'm watching this ... My 02 cr250 has been getting much less attention since the arrival of the small bores. Its a great bike. I thought a makeover in the new husky style might be cool.

IMO, nothing looks scabbier than an offroad bike with black plastics. I see that era of bike come up for sale locally, on occasion. I know nothing about them, but if the price is right, it might make for a fun project. I'd like to try a 250 MX bike again some day.

So I woke up, slapped some wheel bearings and a good used tire on the front and went to meet two other nuts who want to ride in 100% precipitation. Rain was semi light and scattered so we had a great time actually. Was not cold. Very good first impression of the bike. Very strong linear motor. Buddy Adam rode it (he ownes a 07 WR250) and the first thing he said is "wonder if i can put a CR ignition in my bike". The jetting is slightly fat and blubbery at times but the motor is very good, so usable. Short shift and it feels like a 300. Grunty and powerful. Let it get into the mid and it pulls hard, top end is good to. Super flexible and fast. Feels like a good YZ250 with a little more flywheel weight. The bike itself for some reason feels small and very light. Seat height is quiet low, bike is very narrow and feels flickable. Geometry is nice, turns quick and is planted. Suspension is useable. Forks are typical 45mm kinda sucky. Work good enough but far from my favorites. Shock feels Ok but low in back, will sort. Trans has nice ratios. Not that it matters as you can stick it in 3rd and ride. Thats good for walking speed to about 30 :>) Muffler fell off. Clutch cable kept popping out of the mount. I think I know what the issue is as the clutch arm on the motor is not rotated right. Need to lengthen that push rod in the clutch center. Some things to attend to bit overall a very good bike. Motor is VERY impressive. Just walls of usable power. Deep muddy uphills were fun. Grunt or explode the hills, It likes both. Great platform, should be fun.
