Late October early November (last year) was perfect. Not that anyone cares... but I will NOT be in State from October 17th to the 24th, so those days (weekend of the 18th) would not be good for me. Just saying.... I would love to go again this year.
http://www.lobosmc.com/fall-classic/ Race the 18-19 weekend as usual....so we need to avoid that. Might also want to consider the ODOT Pit OHV area (Millican) just north of the highway for a change of scenery. Its actually pretty nice there since the campground is back against the hill you dont hear the traffic...which isnt very heavy anyway. Connects to the North Millican OHV trails http://www.fs.usda.gov/wps/portal/fsinternet/!ut/p/c5/04_SB8K8xLLM9MSSzPy8xBz9CP0os3gDfxMDT8MwRydLA1cj72BTSw8jAwgAykeaxcN4jhYG_h4eYX5hPgYwefy6w0H24dcPNgEHcDTQ9_PIz03VL8iNMMgycVQEAIzTHkw!/dl3/d3/L2dJQSEvUUt3QS9ZQnZ3LzZfME80MEkxVkFCOTBFMktTNUJIMjAwMDAwMDA!/?ss=110601&ttype=recarea&recid=38742&actid=93&navtype=BROWSEBYSUBJECT&position=BROWSEBYSUBJECT&navid=110350000000000&pnavid=110000000000000&cid=null&pname=Central Oregon - North Millican OHV Trail System The big picture map http://www.fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_DOCUMENTS/stelprdb5412873.pdf
Is there cellphone service there? If yes, I vote no. One of the things I like about Camp 25 is that there's no phone service...People actually have to TALK to each other (eek! skeery!)
We have a group of 15 + planning on going up to camp 25 Oct 23rd thru 26th. We have a 50th birthday on the 24th and he wants to put down 100 plus miles on the 24th before we start the party. It should be a great time, hope to see you all there!
Sept 9th for the big 5.0. for me. I'm feeling old but still acting young. Wonder how long I can keep that up.
The weekend of October 25-26 would be nice. The weather usually flips after that around Halloween. Unless you want to wait until first rain/snow to settle the dust.
Yup I think we have been hoping for moisture since the planning of the first campout but it is (as you know) a crap shoot, IE two years ago (I think) we got a nice layer of dry snow that melted slightly, then it proceeded to snow and get real cold. I remember 6 degrees one crisp morn. I think you were there. One of these years we should get the epic conditions.... Like you say somewhere around the first of November is the weather shift in Central OR.
