November 3 & 4, Prospectors MC, Grand Prix, Gorman, CA I will be there cruising around, but I have to work the races both days, possibly Friday and Monday too. The race is in a different area than the park, so I am told anyway, but watch out for crazy racers anyway. There may be sponsors out there too which usually equates to great deals. I will post the Prospectors flyer when it becomes available. http://district37ama.org/offroad/calendar.html http://prospectorsmc.org/
Prospectors 2012 GP Official Info Post Our 27th Annual California Grand Prix is coming up November 3 and 4. Here are the FAQ's for this years race. Location - Gorman, just like the last 21 years. The State Parks Department, OHV Division Staff has been working very hard on many improvements and upgrades. So the track and facilities are in great shape. Directions to Event - These directions are correct and will get everyone to the GP! If Northbound (From LA) on 5 exit at Smokey Bear Road and follow DayGlow Orange cards with Black Arrows to MX track. If Southbound (From Bakersfield) on 5 exit at Quail Canyon Road and turn right. At "T" intersection. turn left onto Peace Valley Road and follow DayGlow Orange cards with Black Arrows to MX track. If Westbound (From Lancaster) on 138 exit at Quail Lake Road which is about a 1/4 mile before 138 meets Hwy 5. Turn right at bootom of ramp and follow road under 5 Freeway. At "T" intersection. turn left onto Peace Valley Road and follow DayGlow Orange cards with Black Arrows to MX track. General Info - The Hungry Valley SVRA Staff and Rangers have been incredibly helpful and accommodating in making this event happen! They have made major upgrades to the WATER SYSTEM and it's working the best it ever has! We are planning on watering nearly 90% of the course again this year! Beyond the water, we have a brand new parking area for this too! Gate Fee- We have the least expensive gate fee of all the GP's! $10.00 per person for the whole weekend and under age 12 are FREE! Food - We will have Daddy's Famous Food again this year. They will have breakfast, lunch and more both days! Yamaha Demo Rides- Yamaha will be offering demo rides on their new WR line of off-road bikes at our event. Look for the Banners and try one out! Course - We are going to run a similar course as last year! You will stay in canyon area and not go into the big wash or in the main park. This layout allows us to water and groom around 90% of the loop and to maintain the course all through the day ! This layout was very popular and well liked last year, so we just fine tuned it a little to make it even better! A lap is around 8 miles and depending on the rider, they will do 3-4 laps per race. Sound Test - We will be following the same District 37 standard Sound Test rules as the Desert races. Prospector M/C members who have been trained and certified will be conducting the tests - Not the Rangers! Sound Testing - This is an "Odd" month for testing, so odd numbered bikes get sound tested. Vintage and Classic have their own higher sound levels. Spark Arrestors - All bikes and quads (Odd and Even Numbers) must have a spark arrestor, even the old bikes. You must go to Sound Test/Spark Arrestor Inspection to have your Spark Arrestor checked prior to going to the Start! No test = No Start!!! You Will be checked before entering start area! This is the same program as prior years. In the past we fail less then 5 bikes out of a thousand. It's not hard to pass. Just don't "Mickey Mouse" it with window screen and rags! Go to sound test before sign-up. Registration - You must have a Green or Red Sticker, License plate or out of state registration to ride. Just like any other time you ride on public lands...No big deal. Parking - WOW! The Park has made us an over flow parking area! Ye Haw...It only took them 20 years to do it! So parking will be much better than in years past with this extra room. So again... no big deal. Fires - Sorry...No fires! Due to the high fire danger, no fires are allowed. No washer tubs, no ground fires, no fires period. Gas BBQ's and stoves are OK. Any Open Fires observed will result in a BIG ticket and removal from the event. Please don't do it! We need to be able to use this facility in the future, and fires would be a deal breaker for all of us! I am not sure what the exact mileage was, I didn't ribbon the course. Grand Prix's are normally 8-12 miles for one hour.
Great Weekend Prospectors! Nice to see Robby and Colton racing! Look forward to Next Year https://plus.google.com/photos/105926185939846057121/albums/5807535155615710945
This year's track was 8 miles long. I apologize to anyone who raced, it was a little dusty because of state limited our water. It was a challenging race course, even the pros commented on the toughness of the layout, days end. Sponsor turnout was good, GPR, Neosynthetics, Zip-ty racing and Yamaha was on site demoing their new line of bikes. Many others. I apologize I didn't get to socialize much, our club was very busy putting on the race, I know I was taking 15 min naps between races on day two. Haha. Hope Paula will be fun, I know I will be busy again. I hope all who attended had a nice weekend!
Round 7 of the AMA Big 6 was this past weekend in Gorman, CA. Timmy Weigand and Colton Udall were on hand for the second to last round and the racing action was heated as usual. The course was a 13 minute lap time, 7+ mile course with lots of square edges and very dusty conditions. The back section had lots of turns mixed with high speed sections in the front. The final race of the day was the premier HWT class. Timmy once again took the Holeshot and with Colton Udall taking 2nd off the line, the two JCR/Honda aces held their pace and a commanding lead for the entire moto finishing well ahead of the pack for a JCR/Honda 1-2 punch. Timmy secured the points lead in the AMA Championship going into the final round of the 2012 season set for December 3-4, at Pala raceway. "It was a good race and my Honda CRF450R was flying. Gorman is a hometown race for me so it was nice to be so close to my house and have the family come out and watch. The HWT race went as planned. Im happy to have the points lead and looking forward to Baja." -- Timmy Weigand
