Why would there be oil coming out of what I assume is the fuel overflow line? Not much, just enough to mess up my driveway

Have you done a recent oil change? If you did, did you spill any on fill up? on my third oil change I forgot to start it up after the first quart and it spilled out over the filler tube. The bike proceeded to drip oil for a few days as crevices and crannies released the excess that was not reachable. It will find the lowest point and then drip from there. You may also have an overfill. Did you put in more than 2 quarts?

Another possibility might be the drain from the airbox. The crankcase breather usually is plumbed into the airbox and if the oil level is too high it can be blown by crankcase pressure into the airbox.

    This ^^^

I forgot to start and run the bike after the first quart too. What a mess. I "learned" from the experience. I actually read the oil change procedure after that.

I think the manual calls for 2000cc but it takes about 2400cc to hit the full mark. I had a couple drops come out mine before - probably from running at the full mark, maybe better to run in between the marks.

You have to remember that the oil expands with heat. I put the 2000 cc's in and questioned whether it looked like enough. I rode about three miles and came back to the garage and the oil level was about in the middle of the dipstick range from low to full.

About 6% little more or less depending on the temp range, but I think the level changes on these dry sump motors b/c of varying amounts of oil left in the engine sump & possibly drain down from the reservoir. I'd guess the best time to check is after a ride before putting it away, not before a ride.:)

This has been discussed before in other threads. The service manual gives the correct process for adding the oil after an oil change.
    - Add 1.5 litres,
    - run the engine,
    - stop the engine
    - add another 0.5 litres
    That's it !
There is no fifth step which says keep adding more oil until it hits the mark on the dipstick.

The owners manual says to run the engine until the fan comes on, and then for a few more minutes, and then stop the engine to check the oil level on the dipstick. The service manual also tells you exactly the amount of oil required to increase the oil level from the low marker to the high marker on the dipstick, so that you can avoid overfilling. It is a very small amount of oil, 50ml or so, which is only 2.5% of the total oil capacity. .

No, haven't changed or added oil at all. Bike has done just over 1000km; last ride it was a hot day (39C or 102F) and the engine temp was hovering at 2/3 or 3/4 of the temp gauge.

Due for its first service tomorrow. The list of things for the mechanic to investigate is growing

Unless you're a dumbarse like me and forget to start the bike as indicated. If you do, you get to add a few steps. For instance wiping up all the oil that you spilled, going back to buy more oil because you are a dumbarse and the ever popular - wipe the excess oil off the frame and radiator because you panicked when the oil over topped the funnel. It's hell to be inept.
