I found an aluminum oil dipstick that fits our oil tanks. I had to cut about a 1/2" off the end. It was hitting the side of the oil tank. It is a Ducati Bevel Twin oil dipstick.
Can't seem to quote text from the OP & the reply box is expanding... What markings does the dipstick have in relation to the original and do you like the idea of needing a spanner to check the oil level?
I just trimmed my dipstick about halfway up so that I was no longer an issue inserting it into the frame. Been a breeze ever since and still shows the oil level (just not the very lowest level, which I wouldn't want it at anyway) .
I scribed a line at the full mark. My dip stick was so messed up I needed pliers to get it unscrewed anyhow. I will get a nice short little 21mm wrench to fit and put it in the tool bag. Plus, now no one can screw around with my oil tank. My dipstick was stripped when I took it out the first time. I hate plastic oil dipsticks. It might work on a Briggs and Stratton but not my motorcycle. LOL
I bought mine from Steve at https://store.bevelheaven.com/engine-related/magnetic-dipstick-bevel-twins/. He answered all my emails and was very patient.
Hello, I've just seen this thread on the dipstick for the TR650, The company that I work for, make these, as imported into the US, for the ducati bevel singles and v twins, and occasionally we meet people who want variations of the dipstick length, and markings, as the thread (M22 x 1.5) seems popular with the likes of Ducati, Laverda, Linto etc Also there's a version without the 21mm hex head, designed for a one piece faired 900 MHR, which may be more suitable as no wrench is needed. It would be no problem to do a small batch, with correct markings for the TR650, thus avoiding having to modify the ducati item All it would take is to supply us a few simple measurements, to tony.brancatoengineering@gmail.com.
I would definitely be interested in one without the hex head. I could deal with anything (torx, allen, or thumb grip) instead of the 21mm hex. The 21mm hex just makes one more tool I have to carry, whereas I have the others in my toolkit already.
Who would be interested in an aluminum oil dipstick? It would be the no wrench version and would not have the wrench hex. It would be manufactured just for our bike and would have the full marks on the dipstick.
Hello TR650 owners... The dipstick can have a 17mm or a 19mm hex head, it would be less likely to be stolen, when the bike is parked up, but we could offer 2 versions anyway, with second version being the thumb tight one
I'm in at $60. It seems like a lot now, but it won't amount to crap when I finally break that cheap plastic piece of crap into the oil tank.
