I have a sm 610 06,and i wonder what type of oil os good for the bike.full synth or semi? Also in front of engine the big part is cover with black oil.I have also a little oil leak the part where engine and exhaust meet together.Should i worry? I use denicol semi oil.
It leaks from the top (valve cover) and runs down. No worries. It calls for 10w60 and I would use a full syn, but that's just me. I also change it every 500-600 miles. I ride in the woods.
I run 10W-50 in mine, I think (would have to look). Any decent semi/full synth motorcycle oil should be fine. Intervals should be based on your usage, I fully agree with ~500 miles for hard trail or racing use. For easy street use, you can probably increase that. Your oil leak can be fixed by replacing the valve inspection cover gaskets, most likely. Not a difficult job.
I've been using Amsoil 10w40 motorcycle oil in my 07 SM610 for the last 40,000 of its 45,000 miles. I ride it every day and mainly on the street, I change oil and filter when I think of it (every couple months/3-4 thousand miles).
