Buddy John had a KTM450. Hated it in the woods. heard many times from buddy Adam how fun my 125 was and he picked one up without ever riding a 125. Luckily his factory supplied jetting worked very good and he was ripping on it in no time. Proclaimed it the best stock bike he has ever rode. LOVED it and was giggling in his helmet like we all do on these little 125's. We climbed some good hills and he was amazed at the lugging power. Another 125 convert in the books. Adams 07 WR250, Jonhs new WR125 and my 144. Happy new husky owner...
BTW buddy John ordered the RM needle after reading your post. He was surprised how well it ran stock after reading this forum. He wondered what all the jetting posts were about. His is probably the best running stock on I have ridden. Weird. Will be interesting to see what the RM needle does for it. up close it looks beat, cuz it is. This bike has seen it all and keeps ripping. I have pounded the crap out of this bike. Here is a picture of the rear disk guard that did it's job many times over. Look at the swing arm and wheel. this bike is thrashed rides like new though.
Yeah, will be interesting to see what happens. Make sure he drops it in the 5.0 slide. I guess you have been doing some rock crushing. I wish we had places to ride like your areas. Still looks slick with the red forks, red head and swing arm decal. Man those motoz have some mean side claws on them. We'll call yours the The Husky Rockclawminator 144! Darin
Yes, I am a 125 convert! I'm truly amazed how well this bike worked. I put in the jetting kit in and it ran great. It climbed everything, suspension worked great, handling and turning excellent and the front brake was awesome. I finally learned how to do a stoppie (the hard way). Best stock bike I've ridden in a long time. Really surprising how much speed you can carry into the corners. This bike just works. Here's a brief list of bikes I've owned: 99 KTM 250EXC, 02 Yamaha YZ250F, 01 CR250, 02 KX250, 04 Husky TE450, 04 Husky WR250, 04 KTM 250EXC, 07 KTM 250EXC....and I enjoyed the first ride on the WR125 the best
Since the bike will be staying...I got rid of the yamaha hand guards. Looks much better now. I picked up the RM needle and will give a full report but a few passes up and down the neighborhood I do notice a little crisper 0-1/4 throttle. As Kelly mentioned, It ran great with the provided jetting kit. (4 slide, bigger starter jet, 45 pilot, taper needle in the middle position, 1 1/2 turns out on the air screw and the gearing is 12-50)
Mac, Try and see if someone has a 5.0 slide you can stick in. Mine ran good with the 4.0 but best with the 5.0/RM needle. Make sure you watch your plug for a while. Sure is a sweet bike! What is your main/pilot you are running? Thanx! Darin
I belong in that photo, as I am over 45 years old, too We'll have to gather the 125/144 crowd together while in Bend and get a photo of the western version of the little old club. WoodsChick
Darin, The bike came with both slides. I have the 5.0 slide in with the RM needle in the middle position, 45 pilot, 460 main, and 1 1/2 turns out on the air screw. It's so easy to swap jets on this bike so I'll do some testing this weekend.
Mac, Before its to late, swap those tires for some Motoz's from Kelly. Those stock Michelins will hurt you when you least expect it. I have a set that are virtually new and I can't find anyone that will take them as a gift.
I actually thought they worked fine last Sunday around Mt. Hood. Now, I've been riding KTM's and front end wash outs are the norm no matter what tire. This WR125 was very nimble but I'll definitely get a set Motoz's for the winter.
