Since my new Strada has arrived, I've noticed it smells like gas in the garage. There's no fuel anywhere, the bike is not over full, I don't run it in the garage. But when it is sleeping in the garage it's giving off a gas smell. Sort of like someone had an open gas can. Anyone else?
I had that same issue on my te511 when I first got it. It turned out to be a pinhole defect on the breather hose from the lower fuel cell.
I believe that's a different smell, kind of a combination really. The stench of dust from the rear tire of one in front of you, and the shyte in the pants of the rider trying desperately to hold on...
My Terra has that "fresh plastics getting toasty" smell, but never a fuel odor. I would check the hoses for seepage, and do it with the fuel injection primed (ignition on). And postpone "cigars and poker" in the garage for a bit. I am also not sure if the Terra has a fuel overflow hose. On my MV Agusta...if I fill it up to the brim and then tip it on a side stand...I get a small puddle of fuel on the floor from the escape hose. I have learned to take the long way home and burn off the excess fuel.
Ok Krussell, I am moving this over from where I asked you to check your oil level and see if it smells like fuel on the Strada review post. Since it appears you said you were overfull on oil and the oil smells like fuel, I believe you definitely have a fuel injector malfunction. Since your oil level is overfull and smells like fuel, you are dumping excess fuel into the combustion chamber and it is running past your rings and into the crankcase and mixing with your oil...bad, bad, bad! You are also " washing" your cylinder walls of the much need oil that your piston and rings need. This will reduce the life of your motor significantly and you need to stop riding your bike now and get it to the dealer regardless of them not having there scan tool yet. I am not just saying this because I am pissed that I can't ride my bike either and I want someone to suffer with me . This makes sence because of the poor mileage, fuel smell, hesitation, stalling, and issues under 4k rpm. Someone else may chime in with a different view and we can help you get through this.
Directly in front of the air filter. I don't have enough olfactory directional awareness to know if it's form the air intake, or waffling up in front of the radiator.
It looks like a fuel vapor cannister on the right front side,up under the red plastic.I would start looking for a loose line or maybe installed incorrectly in that area.
Hmmm....gas smell in the oil is not good. Sounds like gas is washing down the cylinders. Possibly the reverse as well! Any news from the dealer you took it to?
So Krussell, do you think we should start making bets on who gets their bike back first? I am guessing it will be you, but I may have an insurance check and a new bike in a week and a half. Are they still waiting for the scan tool and hardware before they look at your bike?
They got some service manual info, but no tools yet. They are looking for the obvious, hopefully they find it.
