So after reading through the TERRAFORMERS! thread again I'm thinking about rear racks. I don't have the facilities (or skills if we're being honest) to fab up my own racks. What options has everyone seen out there? I was wanting something that can take a full set of hard bags if the mood strikes. Something that replaces or enhances the rear rack would also be a nice thing to have. I haven't heard of any problems, but the stock rear rack just seems suspect to me.
I don't think they're available in the US yet. Not a problem as I'm not in any kind of rush, but certainly an annoyance. Edit: Just pulled up the Touratech site and it's nicely filled out since last week, racks and all! Any pictures of their stuff? I was looking around the website and I just see the Hepco & Becker logo for everything.
Pics will be up when product is available. They said the R&D for these are all done in Germany so he couldn't get access to pics yet. We will just have to wait a few more weeks to see what they came up with.
I was thinking Altrider crash bars when the UPS truck rolled up the driveway this morning. What he hopped out with was a big box from Touratech. The pannier racks are apparently available now. It didn't take long to get my modified Happy Trails KLR racks off and these racks on. These things are solid. No flex at all. The mounting uses all four rack attachment locations and relocates the factory rack about an inch farther to the rear and an inch higher. The only negative for me is the tubing diameter is 18mm instead of the 5/8 inch needed for the Ortlieb bicycle panniers I was using. Looks like I'll be doing some more shopping.
Mr dangslow, can you measure how far are the frames from exhaust ? in closest and farthest part ? Looks bit too wide to me... Maybe thats camera angle. Can you take one picture with camera aligned to frame ? (just from back with frame directly in centre of picture). Would appreciate that.
Lone Wolf....The rear of the rack is 2" from the pipe and the front is 1". The racks are parallel to the center line of the bike. Ridin' Donks....I was using the Ortlieb backroller city with the QL1 attachments. I can get them on these racks, but there's some bending of the clamps. Ortlieb makes a motorcycle specific pannier that I may try.
Dangslow, that doesn't look too bad. When I set up my shop built Wolfman style racks, I spaced them 1.5" from the pipes, parallel to the pipes. Your racks split the difference. I think mine are a bit farther forward as I wanted the weight just a bit in front of the axle. I will never carry a passenger so no leg room problems. Even now, I could put someone on the back without a problem. As much as anything I wanted to be able to put my loaded duffel half on the rack and half on the rear seat to keep the weight forward when really loaded for a long trip. I still have room in the back to lash on a tent or my cold weather gear, etc., and not overhang the back of the rack.
Well, I just met Berg and got my Terra back with the BRMoto/Wolfman side racks!! Very solid setup that gives me the TERRFORMER-style racks with no welding on my part! Berg designed the cross-member to support the tail; with the cross-member and 6 mounting bolts, this rack does *not* move! I think you could lift the whole bike from the racks!! Low-quality pictures will hopefully get posted tomorrow. I am using the Seahorse 720s for commuting and had Berg bring me a set of his "top loader conversion kit"(my term, not his): this kit takes a standard side-loading Pelican type bag and makes it a top-loader!! It has plastic inserts that make a box of the lid that closes snugly into the base. Web straps limit opening and allow "stuffing" without the lid falling open! Very excited to try these, as the top-loading cases are either too small, too large or too expensive! Also got BRMoto's kit that provides quick-release mounts that connect the 720s to the racks. Very worthwhile sacrifice of my bike for a week!! And I wish Berg good weather as he unwinds with a little Utah dirt and sand dune riding!! Guess Wyoming is still pretty snowed in!!
Any chance you could show us a pic? I had discussed using my bike with Berg but the distance was a bit much to make it work, I'm curious to know what they came out weighing as well?
Berg Briggs is BR Moto (Back Roads Moto) and he makes the racks for Wolfman. He has his own website too.

BR Moto is no longer in business. If there is something specific you wanted you can still try calling, and if he happens to have it laying around, he would likely sell it.
